Zaika — Restaurant in Chesterfield

Absolutely shocking food. All that is worst about "curries" in the UK. We've just left most of our takeaways and thrown them in the bin. Examples are the prawn puri and chicken passanda. Expecting a nice bit of unleven bread with a little salad and spicy prawns, we were astonished to be faced with an aluminium tray containing a roti filled to the brim with some "out of a tin" korma slop and a few rubbery prawns. Not a great start. The passanda was that bright pink/red stuff you encounter in the worst curry houses with a few bits of questionable chicken. The whole thing tasted like weird tinned tomato soup. Neither of these dishes had any discernable spicing that we could identify. Without going on in any more detail every other dish we had was equally disappointing. No real knowledge or skill on display in preparing what should be outstanding dishes, each with its own unique and memorable flavour balances. The only memories are those of huge amounts of salt and weird unrecognisable food. The worst take away food...

We came here for a family meal, and it was lovely. Billy - the new owner - was fab and explained to us that he is trying to make the restaurant Award Winning once again.

Our meal and experience was lovely and I would recommend.

Some of our curries were better than others, the lamb dishes and the chicken tikka Balti were delicious, as were the starters - particularly the chicken chaat.

They also catered for my dad who loves his curries HOT!

The restaurant has had an interior upgrade which is lovely and they are continually trying to improve the food. I wish Billy the best with his ambition to be one of the top Indian restaurants in Chesterfield.

I ordered 1 chicken phal. Lemon rice. Onion bhajis. Chapatis. Chips. It was not a phal that I asked for and very very watery. Rice was normal pilau with a bit of pickled lemon added. Onion bhajis were so salty I only had 1 bite. Chapatis were nice. Fries were nice. Lady on the phone that took my order was lovely. Very very disappointed as I've ordered from zaika for the last 4 years and never really had a problem apart from a couple of occasions when the curry was a little watery but this time round it was horrendous. Do I order from them again.? I don't know, I won't waste my money on sub standard food, it's as simple as that.. Come on zaika, I know you are better...
