We came across this pub on Park4night app while visiting for the weekend and all the reviews said it was a great place to stop in a motorhome - landlord really amenable, happy to let you park on the grounds if you use the pub facilities etc. Perfect! We thought... Tried to call a number of times early evening on the way down, as multiple road closures meant we'd arrive after closing hours. Unfortunately couldn't get an answer. We arrived and parked around 1am, planning to drop in the next day and make sure it was okay to park for a couple of nights. We weren't expecting to be hit with a £150 bill for staying just because it was the same weekend as the Goodwood Festival. £150 for a patch of grass with NO FACILITIES at all? EXTRA fees if we wanted to use the toilet? For a fully self-sufficient vehicle requiring no water, power or toilet that's taking the Proverbial!
But it gets better... We could pay an extra £20 per head to join their evening BBQ and garden party if we wanted. No thanks.... Although we didn't really get a choice on that. The 'music' (utterly tasteless boy racer's choice of car music) was BLASTED across the garden and car park until 12.30am. No exaggeration. We tried putting on a film to drown out the noise and could barely hear it. Some lads kicking a football around the grounds accidentally kicked the ball at the cab, and my other half went out to politely ask them to be careful, had a little friendly chat with some other campers and came back in. A bit later he went out again and one of the boys shouted to his friends 'Oh watch the cars, otherwise the owners will come out and smack you' in a really obnoxious tone. We ignored this but a short while later the ball was kicked at our vehicle again.
Eventually, really tired from a long day (we had to be up early and only arrived at 1am so were tired by the time the 'music' finally stopped), we managed to get to sleep. The next day we were out early again and about and came back in the evening to find the 'music' blasting for a second night. Yay. Again, we chatted to others who were parked up near us and cooked dinner etc, then once it got dark there was a loud bang on the side of the motorhome. We looked outside and couldn't see anything so thought maybe it had been a falling branch. Until it happened a second time. Then a third. Each time my other half went outside and couldn't see anyone, so he lay in wait to watch and found the same kids from the night before were deliberately banging on our vehicle! To top it off, when we went in to speak to whoever was responsible for these disrespectful gobby little sh!tbags it turned out one of them was actually the landlord's son! So we're paying £150 for the privilege of a patch of grass with no facilities, be subjected to ridiculously loud music and have our vehicle bashed around by the LANDLORD's own son??! The noise AGAIN went on until well past legal (respectful) limits - 12.30 again. The guy in the motorhome next to us said he'd previously visited for the last 20 years but after this year would NEVER return. His poor wife wasn't feeling great and had a big headache and hadn't been able to sleep due to the noise. Us and all of the people we spoke to on the site were average age of 35-45 - not old and not the kind of people who aren't up for a good social session but this place really have NO idea of how to run a decent establishment. We will never return, nor will any of the people who stayed that weekend (beginning of July 2021). Clueless, disrespectful, selfish and inconsiderate. Definitely not a place...
Read moreCrossed Arms - We have visited this area many times but this was our first time for Sunday Lunch at the Anglesey Arms. I used the open table App to book which was easy and confirmed my booking.
Overall our experience was very good but pricey if we are honest. £93 for two drinks, two starters, two roasts and service charge. £20.50 each for roast hmm is that the going rate these days? I will let you be the judge on that one..
We understand good pubs are hard to find and costly to run but we didn't expect to be as pricey for lunch either.. Still the food was tasty, as was the gravy, though limited. As for the beef it would have been nice for a bigger portion and served warmer for the price at least.
That said the Staff were attentive and friendly, speedy and polite, decor was nice and pleasant. Quirky that the bill is served in an old book, glad it wasn't a long read either.
Recommend that the flooring and walkways need renovating, though good facilities nonetheless with a big outside garden area and covered tables too.
The Anglesey Arms is also Dog friendly and they even have doggy menu for the non fussy pooch too.
Overall 4/5...we would visit again on payday and hopefully give it 5 stars, with our friends for their opinion,...
Read moreThe food was average. I had the sirloin steak, and it was not good quality; the meat was subpar, and the sauce lacked any real flavor. For dessert, I had the lemon honeycomb popcorn cheesecake, and only the popcorn tasted good. The cheesecake was hard and lacked any zest. The calamari we ordered had a terrible batter—maybe a YouTube video could teach them how to make a good one.
We first went in last night without a reservation, and the waiter told us it was fully booked—but we could sit outside. Yes, outside in winter when it’s 5 degrees. That’s spot-on service and really shows how much they value their customers. Since I don’t give up easily, I decided to check for a reservation while standing outside the restaurant. Funny enough, I managed to book a table for 45 minutes later. I was genuinely surprised by the kind of service they provided, yet they still expected me to pay that fee. No shame!
I was also astounded by the casualness of the service team in adding a 12.5% service charge. They added it without the courtesy of informing us of the percentage, and when asked, they simply said, “It can be removed,” making the situation awkward. Charging a service fee for something that is part of their job role...
