Travelled to the area for a course and stayed in a local B and B, The Stags head was suggested as a place to eat nearby. Visited about 8 pm on a snowy night log fire burning locals chatting looked great. Staff very friendly and service quick asked for the menus and was impressed with the choices,decided on garlic mushrooms starter followed by Steak and ale pie.mushrooms were very nice not to much garlic with a nice colourful salad on a toasted bun,next it was the steak and ale main well the mash was lovely as were the seasonal veg carrots cauli and red cabbage topped with a generous portion of steak and ale. Great conversation with the landlord Stuart will definetly visit again...
Read moreHad breakfast last weekend and all week wanted another as it was so nice so went back today and it did not disappoint, even allowed me to take a cheeky extra breakfast home with me 🥰 Stuart & Anita are wonderful, lovely and welcoming even when rushed, and all the staff i have so far met have been so friendly and helpful. Coming from Chichester in which you now know no one due to all the old places closed and the local community feeling banished years ago for a larger rushed, megacity London feel, makes you want to just up and move here as everyone makes you feel so welcome and just a lovely place to be socially or for something to eat....
Read moreA family gathering at the Stags Head proved to be a good decision. 13 of us sat down for a meal. 3 choices of meat, a selection of vegetables, roasties of course and gravy over yorkshire pudding. The hardened ones in the group met the challenge of sticky toffee, cream or custard. Chocolate pudding was last seen being rapidly devoured by a nephew. Accompanying all this was copious amounts of either wine or beer including a local ale . An excellent pub atmosphere, family run, very friendly and helpful to one and all. Prices very reasonable.
