Easy to find as just a short drive from Junction 3 of the M65. They offer a Lunch time special of a starter and a mains for £20 per person Monday to Thursday between 12 and 2.30pm. This is also available as an Early Bird Special between 5 and 6 pm. Good range of mains. If memory serves you have choice of around 14 or so dishes. Specials or steaks are not included in the deal.
I went for the Salt and Pepper Squid, normally £7.50 as my starter. For my mains I went for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. My fellow diner went for the Beef and Ale Pie. Both were £16.95. The 2 course option was £4.45 cheaper than if I had bought my starter and mains outside of the deal.
A reasonable wine list but nothing under £23.00 that I could see so not the cheapest. And despite a description of the wine there was no mention of the ABV which I thought was a bit of an oversight.
I enjoyed my starter but would have liked it to have had a bit more of a kick.
Both pies were very good. Decent filling and like the rest of the food piping hot. Staff confirmed they were home made. Chips were good. Evenly cooked. Mine came with white cabbage, my fellow diner got red cabbage. The pies were served sitting on this. My cabbage was lovely. They must have melted some butter into it as it was so tasty. However, like with the chips I thought the portions were a bit on the small size. And both pies though very good had some herbs added for flavour which they didn’t really need.
I wasn’t full so went for a dessert. I ordered the Chocolate Pot at £7.95. It was very rich and tasty. It came with some ice cream on the side which was delicious but was a really small portion. In fact I thought it was skimpy.
Service was friendly and good natured despite an early mix up with my wine order. We were served by Skye who although busy with other customers popped over several times to check everything was alright, answered our queries and took on board our comments which she said she would relay back to the kitchen.
So quality wise no complaints about the food. It’s way above average for pub grub. But it’s not the cheapest and, I have to say, the portions were a little small with regards to the chips, the cabbage and the ice cream. However, this would not put us off visiting again as it’s very easy to get to from the M65 and they do have a good choice of mains available on...

The Royal Oak is situated in a beautiful rural setting in the Ribble Valley.
The pub is comfortable with a traditional country pub aesthetic mixed with contemporary amenities and design tasted. The premise is clean and well maintained. The pub is busy but not usually loud or crowded.
Staff at the Royal Oak are friendly and approachable, they are attentive and responsive to requests without being overbearing. Food and drink are served promptly.
Drinks offered include your typical suit of popular beers; Guinness, Moretti etc.. mixed with a small selection of traditional Thwaites Brewery ales. There is a standard selection of wines and a small number of Ciders and non alcoholics are also available. As far as Im aware craft beer isn’t served here.
The Food is where this pub really shines. Everything I have eaten here is phenomenal from starters to desserts. I particularly recommend the specials menu. The Sunday dinner roast beef is probably the best I’ve ever had, beating expensive steakhouse roasts and Michelin star beef dishes. Other meals sampled include fish goujons, mushroom arancini, pork asiette and stick toffee pudding. All were excellent.
The drinks and main menu is standard country pub prices. Specials are a bit more expensive but well worth it.
5 star definitely worth visiting. I would recommend booking for food rather then walk ins as this place...
Read moreSuch a lovely pub. The young waitresses were very nice and helpful. One poor girl had lost her voice but was still smiling and was so nice. The actual pub is very nicely decorated and clean. We got to the pub for 11.30 when it opened and we were warmly welcomed and given a table. We ordered the garlic tomato chill bread which was very light n tasty. We also had the duck spring rolls and they were very nice with plenty of duck inside. We both chose the suet steak and kidney pudding with chips and peas. I opted for Savoy cabbage. The pudding was delicious. It was so big I couldn’t eat the chips. We both really enjoyed our meals. Starters are roughly £6.95 and mains can vary from £10.95 up to £20 depending on what you choose to order. The atmosphere was very relaxing and it wasn’t noisy even when more people started coming in. I’ll definitely be visiting again especially in summer as the beer garden is a good decent size. Two car parks which is a bonus one around the back of the pub and one as the side. We didn’t have any issues with parking which again...
