Lady Nairne Beefeater — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

I’m not usually one to complain, but after our experience here I had to leave a review to warn others.

During our stay in edinburgh we wanted a Christmas roast dinner and so travelled out of the city where we were staying to this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst dining experiences of our life.

We were immediately greeted with hostility by the manager (Martin… more on him later) informing us that he had a table of 25 in and so our food may take a while (despite us pre-booking).

While the food was adequate, the service was absolutely shocking. Our waitress (didn’t catch her name) couldn’t be less interested and everything seemed a chore to her. Martin was extremely rude on many occasions. We were often left waiting for something (plates to be cleared / the bill) and he would be standing behind the bar on his phone drinking a chocolate milkshake that the waitress had made him. We felt extremely uncomfortable when hearing him speak to the table beside us in a horrible manner.

The table of 25 came with many many children who, instead of staying in their area, decided to run around and play hide and seek around our table, making us very frustrated and uncomfortable, with the restaurant staff not battering an eye lid.

Whilst we were eating, another waitress was clearing a table next to us when she loudly burped, not covering her mouth…

Finally, there was a poster on our table telling us if we signed up to the loyalty scheme and showed our registration, we would get 25% off today’s bill. This did not happen. The rude waitress insisted the till “wouldn’t let her” because we had a Christmas meal, which was NOT stated on the misleading poster.

I have given one star and that was purely for the steak I had. I booked online for dinner and my options were 17h30 or 20h30 and later. When my party and I arrived the restaurant was practically empty. This however was not the extent of the poor service we then had to endure during our meal. When we were seated we were told of the changes to the menu, which under the circumstances we are now living, was understandable. I have to say though that the online menu is completely different from what you are given when seated. One of the dishes that we ordered turned out not to be available either even though it wasn't mentioned to begin with. The starters came and we had to endure one of the waiting staff complain to another customer that he did not even earn minimum wage. Maybe if he paid more attention to the customers he would earn more tips. Once those customers had left the same waiter and the MOS proceeded to complain about the kitchen and then bad mouth one of the other staff members. The main course arrived without clearing the starter plates so there was a pileup of dishes. We had finished our meal within the hour and when we asked about deserts we were told that the kitchen had closed. I find it hard to believe that you offer booking time slots for past 9pm but then shut the kitchen at 21h30. Overall very unfriendly, inexperienced, unprofessional staff. We didn't even get a "thanks for coming enjoy the rest of your evening" at the end of it all. It really astounds me that, with the year and a half we've all had to endure, I would think that making customers happy and satisfied so that they leave great reviews to bring you business again and again is...

Went in for a meal with my wife . Both of us had masks on . I wear glasses and they do steam up. We waited for about 5 minutes with no sign of anyone . I did the track and trace barcode and turned back to speak to my wife when a guy who was behind the bar walked out with 2 drinks and actually shouted across to us “put your mask on “ I put it on and he came over asking if I had done the track and trace , I said yes and he demanded to see my phone . I showed him and he said “fill it in now “ I said we would fill it in when we were seated as we usually do but he told me to do it now while standing at the door . Rules may be rules but his attitude was terrible . We told him to forget and left . We are now in the cuddly bear where the atmosphere is good , staff are friendly and the food is lovely . We will not go back as long as this manager is there . I had my first drink in the lady Nairne when I was 18 and we’ve had 21st , 30th , 40th , 60th , retirement , leaving do and general family gatherings over many years . I’ve known staff and managers and have relatives who actually work there at the moment and we have never been treated like that by anyone . This guy is simply not cut out for the hospitality industry . No smiles , no personality and no manners .
