Absolutely well worth the visit! New barn build of a restaurant and village shop in East Mersea, it has plentiful car parking and large outside area for dining as well as plentiful seating inside. Free WiFi is available whilst you sit, with a really comprehensive coffee and dri ls selection. Food is amazing, the chips are some of the best around, crunchy and tasty. The BBQ Brioche bun is brilliant, loads of strong bbq flavours and a healthy helping of various slaws. The club sandwich also hits the mark, with some very good crispy smoked bacon. Scampi and chips was also good, tasty scampi with the same triple cooked chips. Couldn't fault a thing with the food and the service was friendly and efficient. Already have requests to go back after one visit, can see this as a firm family favourite. Visit it, you won't regret it.

Great place on the island offering good food in a wonderful setting in the middle of nature. Service could be improved (staff could pay more attention to customers and their needs as they walk in and are looking for a place to sit or as they finish their meal and are looking to pay - on both situations I felt like we had to prompt the staff instead of the staff paying attention to our needs and being proactive). Same situation in the little shop attached to the restaurant which has a wonderful selection of items but the host could be warmer and more inviting - I bet that would increase sales too.

We went to Mersea Barns on Monday morning. It was a wintery morning , very cold and icy. The restaurant was quite warm and we had Coffee . My Friend had a scone and I had a gluten- free Orange and Almong Cake that had just come out of the Oven. It's rare to get much in the way of gluten-free Cake and this was exceptionally good and such a treat ! We had a nice browse round the shop that had quite a range of gifts. It would have been nice if they had Christmas music playing but it was a very cold morning and it was probably rather challenging just getting the Restaurant warm!

We arrived very excited for breakfast, lovely place, however, 40 minutes after being seated no one came and asked what we would like to drink, I see other people that arrived after us already had their drinks? I asked a waiter if we could have some service and they took our two cups of coffee order and our breakfast choice, half an hour later still no coffee 🙁 I asked can we have our coffee please and to be told I will chase that up for you, 15 minutes later I asked again and still nothing, we waited a bit more and by this time feeling very thirsty and hungry we ended up leaving, a shame really as heard many great reviews about the place but just felt no one bothered to attend to us, will not be visiting again, ended up going to the peldon rose, within one hour we had our drink and food and the service was remarkable, food delicious 😋 we missed our breakfast and we were so looking forward to it with you, shame on you for letting us down and ruining our Sunday morning, by the time we left it was too late for breakfast anywhere else but thankfully the Peldon rose made up for the bad...

Lovely place to dine as a family but I would urge the management to look at their vegetarian options which are wholly inadequate. We had Sunday lunch today as a family and spent in excess of £60. I would have loved to have walked away feeling good about the food I had, but I felt very much like an afterthought. The veggie option (of which there was only 1) involved a Sunday roast including roasted potatoes with... bubble and squeak (potatoes) as the vegetarian star of the show. I had to buy (and pay additionally) for a quiche to have some protein on the plate. I would suggest adding a nut roast with veggie gravy or a small cheese quiche as options. Additionally, children's options are very limited on the veggie side, only spaghetti with sauce. Some sandwiches with cheese or peanut butter would be easy additional options. What we loved was the setting (lovely shaded table) and the playground which kept the kids happy. As locals, we'd come back often if the veggie options can...

Disappointed. Visited today May 3 2022 and the food was not up to that when we visited last year and the service was poor. The poached eggs were more like hard boiled and the granary toast was one slice of very thin almost white bread. The toast did not come with the order and waitress said she would be back with it then went off to serve another table. After we both waited, with the food getting cold, we then had to remind the waitress about the toast which took several more minutes while she chatted to her colleague behind the counter. When it finally arrived told the waitress that it was "bad timing" and she just laughed and agreed with me. No apology. Called her back to say it did not look like granary bread but then decided to give up and eat before everything got cold. Decided not to chance the desert. Nobody asked if everything...
