Decided on a whim to visit Chipping Camden and Broadway having heard that the touristy experience was worth a look, sadly, what we did see wasn't much different to what the many other Cotswold villages offered - that is souvenirs and tacky stuff being sold from chocolate box high street shops set in really beautiful cotswold stone buildings .We had driven 60 odd miles to be disappointed and to make matters worse the Bank Holiday weather was running true to the script being overcast with steady light rain - fed up we decided to drive back towards Coventry. From then on my luck changed! , I decided to stop at a hostelry and began to look at pubs as we drove past looking for we liked the look of .The route took us through the village of Mickelton, passing the Kings Arms pub I initially missed the entrance but turned around and went back and was glad I did! The pub was busy but the main lunchtime session was ending ,we were quickly given options of where to sit , deciding on the bar,the table was immediately cleaned and reset,we were served drinks by a friendly lady who poured my wife a glass of wine while I had a pint of 'loose cannon' bitter which was well kept and full of flavour. The kitchen offered full a menu plus a specials board and a selection of sandwiches, despite this choice we decided to try , well, the Kings Arms version of fish and chips!. We waited about 15 mins and the food was brought to our table - what a revelation! the large piece of fish ( we learned later) was fresh and had been coated in a beer batter made in the kitchen, the chips were really thick cut potato so half a dozen was too many, and the tartare sauce put the usual sachet of white paste to shame , this to had been produced from prime ingredients in the kitchen ,with a serving of peas the meal was exemplary, the food had been cooked on site and the people producing it cared .Very good value, well worth the drive and we will visit the...
Read moreDiscovered whilst walking the Heart of England Way. Covid Rules allowed outside drinking/eating only at the time of writing (May2021). We had to sign in using the NHS app or on paper. We were directed to a table wearing a mask, after hand sanitizing. We sat down and ordered our drinks - Hook Norton bitter. Excellent! There is an outside bar and griddle/planchar for cooking/serving food. I returned after a week as I wanted to tick off Meon Hill nearby and have lunch. I parked at the pub, asked if it would ok to do so whilst I walked, and stated I wanted lunch there. They agreed, I booked a table although they weren't due to be crowded. On return, I signed in, and was directed to a table. Ordered my drink - Hook Norton Gold - even better than the Bitter. The menu was brought to me and I ordered. The food appeared wonderfully presented within 5 mins. See pics. The dropped star is very minor. The pub is adjacent to the Vale of Evesham - world famous for its asparagus. Where did the asparagus I had come from? The Wye Valley🤔🤭. That said the food was well cooked, beautifully presented and tasted superbly. Very good value for money. I would highly recommend the King's Arms, Mickleton. Book after 17th May 2021!! Revisited for lunch 31st May 2021. Swordfish and salad with side of fries. Absolutely delicious and fantastic value for money. Other dish ordered: marinated chicken beautifully tender. Sadly the rather heavy Old Hooky was offered rather than Gold or Bitter. Timothy Taylor wasn't bad. Still only 4 stars...

Excellent village pub with absolutely fantastic atmosphere and food. Dog friendly too. We had our Labrador with us and was welcomed by all of the staff.
The main pub, facing the road, has a traditional bar & lounge layout dating back to the mid 1730's. Complete with an inglenook style fire place. Choice of ales and popular beers avail6 on tap, and served by very friendly staff too.
To the left side of the pub is a large car park. To the rear of the pub which is accessible from the car park, the bar or even the small village footpath behind the garden area, which leads to and from the church.
The garden area deserves a special mention as well. The outdoor area is huge, and has masses of different styles of seating and tables, most of which are in covered areas, but others are in the open garden if the weather is sunny. In addition to all the seating, there's a staffed bar and open grill with chef, serving food, which was really tasty. Try the halloumi cheese fries, and the humous they were delightful.
I hope the review and photos do it...
