I love the Eating House it's a very cosy cafe, not large probably about 30 seats inside and an outdoor area where you can take your dogs which probably seats possibly 16 to 20. The staff are lovely and only to pleased to hello you. They cater for Vegetarians and Vegans and other social diets. The selection is very good and will alter a dish to please if they can. Their soups and quiches are homemade and delicious. Everything is cooked and made upto order. I had a jacket potato today with cheese, it was served with a lovely selection of salad items and for me a lovely coleslaw not made with onions which suits me as l can't eat onion. After l had a piece of lime and coconut cake. The selection of cakes/buns/tarts etc is unbelievable they do an amazing lemon meringue pie and chocolate bread and butter pudding, several loaf cake combinations, some of the pieces of cake can be warmed and some served with a little pot of pieces fruit. Cream, custard and ice cream can be chosen from for the crumble and bread and butter etc. Their scones are delicious usually fruit or cheese. They do fruit smoothies, milk shakes etc and have lovely drink especially in warmer weather is Elderflower with fresh red currants in. Nice Bottle drinks. Coffees and selection of teas and herbal teas. Filter coffee and l think it's breakfast tea you can have a free refill. It's open until 5.30 Meals finish being served by 5pm but you can have a drink and or cake to finish by 5.30. Adjoining the cafe is the lovely and very well stocked Derbyshire Craft Centre Shop. Large children's toy area, seasonal goods, cards, books, gift wrap and bags, jewellery, scarves, handbags, watches, selection biscs, etc loads of gift ideas, many many items too numerous to mention. I can only recommend both businesses very...
Read moreHaving read the glowing reviews I decided to go and have a look at this Café. On arrival I found the car park to be almost full. It appears that some people park there permanently. On entering the premises I discovered an obstacle course ,heavily cluttered with tourists tat. The café area is accessed via a pyramid of stairs. You climb up to a landing and then immediately descend. I'm convinced that this is a practical joke.
As I entered, I noticed a sign informing people entering that it is table service and to go and find a table. I followed this instruction and immediately a female employee fled into the back and disappeared. I took some photos whilst I waited, but when I realised that I was being deliberately ignored, I began to feel uncomfortable, so I put away my camera and exited. It took quite a bit of time to reach the door because of all the bidies cloging the very narrow aisle. Grateful to be back out on the street I got into my van to head off to the next venue. In spite of the reviews, I would not recommend this...
Read moreVery poor quality food. I ordered mushroom pate. It must have been defrosted not long ago because it was cold and watery, not nice at all. The mixed salad wasn't good either, the tomatoes must have been chopped and placed in the fridge the previous day, they were awful. It's hard to understand why the chef would do this in the midst of summer! Tomatoes in August are actually pretty nice... sweet and crunchy and full of flavour. If served fresh obviously. It wasn't even busy to justify all the prep being done so much in advance. Lettuce already had some brown edges. The only good thing was a bread roll - one of those pre baked ones to finish in the oven. They even forgot to bring us cutlery and so we ended up getting up from the table and looking for a staff member...Very, very...
