The Bulls Head: A Quintessential English Village Pub
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nestled in the picturesque village of Monyash, The Bulls Head stands out as an exemplary establishment offering an authentic and delightful pub experience. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted by the warm, welcoming atmosphere of this charming inn.
The interior exudes traditional English pub charm, complete with a cozy open fire that creates an inviting ambiance, perfect for unwinding after a countryside walk. The decor is tasteful and complements the historic character of the building.
The menu at The Bulls Head is impressive, featuring a wide variety of classic British dishes, all prepared to perfection. On my visit, I indulged in the steak pie and minted lamb casserole, both of which were absolutely superb. The portions are generous, ensuring excellent value for money. The chef’s commitment to quality is evident in every bite, with each dish showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
For those with dietary restrictions, The Bulls Head is exceptionally accommodating. As a coeliac, I was pleased to find a variety of gluten-free options, and the chef was more than willing to tailor dishes to meet my needs. The gluten-free battered fish and chips were a particular highlight, demonstrating both creativity and culinary skill.
The service at The Bulls Head is second to none. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to ensure that every guest has a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re there for a leisurely lunch, a celebratory dinner, or just a quick pint, they make you feel like a valued part of the community.
The outdoor seating area is an added bonus, providing a lovely spot to enjoy your meal while taking in the scenic views of the village. It’s particularly delightful on a sunny day, offering a serene and pleasant dining environment.
Parking is ample and convenient, making The Bulls Head easily accessible even during peak times. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this pub is a must-visit destination in Derbyshire.
Overall, The Bulls Head is a quintessential English village pub that excels in every aspect. From the exquisite food to the impeccable service and the charming atmosphere, it offers a dining experience that is both comforting and exceptional. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a true taste of traditional British hospitality. @Shaunie66...
Read morewell title says it all really - one of my 3 joint favourite places to eat. I have been about four times now and look forward to my next visit - it's not exactly close to me so not somewhere I can nip to on a regular basis.
Where to start ? well everything about the place is top drawer. It's a lovely place full of charm and nice old world touches. There's seating outside and further back a playground with swings etc for the children.
Service is very warm and friendly and also efficient. On at least two occasions we got there and it looked very busy indeed - both outside and once we got in. We wondered if:
a) we'd be able to get a table b) We'd be waiting a very long time for our food.
a) yes we did on both occasions. b) much to our amazement , given how very busy it was, no we weren't waiting a very long time at all.
food portions are very large indeed - I am a large chap with a huge appetite but I have never had more than one course here.
I'm thinking things must have changed from late 2013 as another review described the Chilli con carne as "Bland". well not now it isn't - the menu warns that it is hot and when you order it you are oft warned it is hot ... and my word it is ..in a good way :0 )
The chilli is my favourite of anywhere I have had chilli - it comes with rice and cheesy , spicy wedges ... lots of them. It is just delicious and I very highly recommend this as I do the Bulls head generally.
A wonderful place that deserves it's success and I look forward to my next and all future visits.
very Highly...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. Perfectly placed at the end of one of Derbyshire's finest round walks, my wife and I decided to end our hike with a quick, refreshing half of Shandy each (I was driving and she isn't a big drinker, nor was it time-appropriate to start drinking heavily). We luckily found a seat in the early evening sunshine outside and spent maybe ten minutes relaxing, drinking our drinks and talking about, ironically, how handy the pub would be for the campsite next door. As we got up to leave, a man on the table next to us, the outermost table, workout looking up from his phone, save from a cursory sideways glance at out empty glasses said, huffily, "Could you take your glasses back to the bar for me". No, my grammar isn't incorrect because it certainly didn't sound like a request, neither did it sound like a plea. I was gobsmacked to say the least. My wife took them back and we left. By the time we'd driven round the corner to head home, whoever this man was, he had gone back inside. I can only assume he needed his hands to hold and interact with people on his phone rather than carry the empty glasses back inside. I can't remember encountering such off-handed rudeness in a public house in all my born days. It may seem petty to leave this review but I was genuinely taken aback by the whole affair. Needless to say, our camping trip and hearty pub lunch and drinking session will take...
