Really excellent pub in the Peak District, just outside of Sheffield. We stopped over for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience here. Food is exceptionally good - portions are big and prepared with care. The service staff is polite and responsive and the meals came quickly. The decor is in a class by itself: the pub was built around the 1600s, which is amazing, and the old building is still fully functional; the old beams above are studded with beer mugs and old horse buckles throughout the ceiling. This entire effect creates an amazingly cosy and unique visual experience. We sat for a while I silence just taking in the beauty of the place. Will definitely be back for another lunch or dinner here. Talk with the staff: they’re a repository of local history about the place and surroundings.

Our second visit today was just as good as the first. Myself and my partner found The Crispin back in January while out for a drive. We had lunch and were very pleasantly surprised by the place and how nice the food was. Our first visit we has scampi and chips and my partner had sausage and mash, everything was hot and freshly cooked. Today we drove over an hour just to return for lunch again. we had the crispy chicken and halloumi burger and fish and chips, the batter on the fish was the best ive ever had. The food was beautiful, portion size is really good. Lots to choose from on the menu. We will definitely be back again to try the pie, we saw someone else have it and it looked lovely. Overall a lovely pub, excellent food and great friendly staff.

Fantastic local pub that is dog friendly, has a lovely open fire and a really impressive menu. There are pub clasics and several interesting twists on pub classics. I had their chicken and chorizo lasagne which I have never seen on a menu before and was everything I hoped it would be. Also highly recomend saving space for pudding!! I can't fault the food at all and their service was really quick considering how busy it was. We were also pleasantly surprised when we came to settle up as it was a lot less expensive than we assumed it would be for the quality of the food and service.

Sunday 29th may 2021.

We went to the Crispin for dinner and the outside area is nice.

HOWEVER..

When the food came out, we were utterly disapointed at the quality of the food. At best, it was on par with a school lunch but I think that would be generous. The shocking part for us was when the bill came it was £15 per meal for a very watery chicken pie and a Lidl style chicken burger.

We did complain, and the staff gave us £10 back off the final bill, because the chicken pie was watery and tasteless. This was fine, and I didn't feel the need to write any reviews as it was a fair resolution to the quality of the meal. Sadly, this wasn't the worst part.

About an hour after the meal my girlfriend started to feel sick, and within 2 hours of eating she was being violently sick which lasted most the night. We had eaten exactly the same food for 48 hours prior to the meal so all of symptoms were pointing to food poising. I'm not the type to post a review, but sadly, if you're going to this place for food I'd stay well clear!

MOST IMPORTANTLY. This is the second time I have posted this review. After the first time, the owner called my girlfriends mobile number that she used to book the pub. He called and threatened that if we did not remove the review that he would get his solicitors involved for slander. We came to an agreement that if I removed the review he would give me a full refund, and he has not. All I have done is post an honest review of our experience at the Crispin, and it would explain why they have such a high rating as it would appear he calls anyone who leaves a bad review and bullys them into removing it. Do not go...

Just been for Sunday dinner Looked at the reviews before we decided to order

Only beef on menu

We ordered and wow what a disappointment we feel we had for £14 each The food was hot but not well presented Put in what appeared to be a pasta bowl swimming in gravy To top it off we had two waitresses who really were not customer facing at all Time for the owners to look at this business from a customers perspective and see what’s happening A smile costs nothing Enthusiasm is needed To top it off I pay the bill Not told how much Just place your card here I had to ask how much Never got a card receipt of a summary of what we had I have scored it 3 My real opinion is one so as not to appear to negative to the pub

A most gracious reply from the owner to which I give great credit to From our part I do refer back to the score it was a 3 as I felt the experience we received was lower than what you normally offer as being in the customer service industry myself I am aware of the shortage of staff A smile shows in the eyes as well as behind a mask Enthusiasm does make a big part of any job or employment I have tried not to be to detrimental as I am aware this is your livelihood If I had made you aware at the time it would have been a complaint which I did not want to do We came for the experience and unfortunately on this occasion we did not get that I would come to you again to see if that experience was better next time I believe we take customers experiences and use them for better for change Once again this is not a bad place Just on the day we did not get the experience we...

Pleasant but undistinguished Robinsons pub. A ceiling festooned with mugs and jugs in an attempt to give character to what is an ordinary village pub. Creditably, it doesn't project itself as a pretentious gastropub - you can go in just for a drink if you want, but food prices, as with a lot of these generically "nice" Peak District pubs, are still somewhat on the high side. Eg. typically, Small bowl of soup & bread roll £4.95. £6 for starters, £10-17 for mains, £5 for desserts. Beer is £3.20 per pint.. As with all this type of Peak Park pub they get away with charging these prices as expense seems not to deter the car borne elderly tourists for whom the recession has had no effect. They do a £7 two course "seniors" special and this was slightly better value but basic quality. Car park full and plenty of these "seniors" in when I visited but no locals or youngsters. Food looked to be decent quality and quantity but is a modest 2 slice toasted cheese and ham sandwich with a bit of salad really worth paying £5.95 for.The fancy salad has a bit of sliced fruit in it so the punters feel that they're paying for a gastronomically superior cheese toastie but it's a £6 cheese toastie containing 50 pence worth of ingredients...
