After various research of where in the peak district near Buxton does a good roast, I kept being led back to this place, The White Lion. The website doesn't give much away but the fb page gives more pictures etc where there were really good reviews. I booked via email and received confirmation back very quickly. We arrived (2 adults and 1 6 month baby) and were met with a very welcome hello by a smiley women. We sat and ordered our drinks and 2 beef roasts...no question about it. The roast came out pretty quicky (I will note that we were the first ones in the pub and first table sat). The roast was divine, a dark, rich gravy with well seasoned beef & veg. The beef didn't cut well but no fear, it was the knife. The beef was tender and very tasty. The potatoes were herby yet properly roasted. There was enough veg and a huge yorkshire to go with it. Now, lets talk about the cauli cheese...usually a side. Nope, this comes as standard and I feel it was a good cheese as opposed to normal, bland cheese. It was so tasty and was a great addition to the roast. We were full up but asked if we could take a slice of backwell tart with Baileys custard home. Yes, this was easy for them and it was boxed up. It is now in the fridge and we are about to tuck in. Great little country pub, amazingly friendly service and just what we were after. Thank you for adding to our great day out.

Booked in for Christmas day lunch. Jen was quick at responding to emails when booking and answered all my questions about gluten-free options. On arrival, the atmosphere was lovely and Chistmassy, and we were directed to our table after ordering drinks at the bar. Starters were lovely, plenty of flavour, main courses were a bit delayed coming out but they were tasty and the waiter apologised for the wait. Pudding was good too, cant beat a christmas pud!. My only complaint would be that the 'gluten free' options for the main just involved things being taken off and a very watery gravy replacing the usual one. So two of us paid the same price for a gluten-free main that was missing the stuffing, pigs in blankets, and a Yorkshire pudding. Wouldn't mind if there had been more veg, roasties, or additional slices of turkey as a replacement, but I felt a bit robbed when the normal main looked so good. Overall though the food was good and we had a nice time, the staff were friendly and it had a nice country pub feel

After looking for somewhere different to meet for lunch myself and friends visited this lovely pub. A warm welcome and good service was provided. I ordered Fish and chips with a salad which they happily accommodated. The batter was thin and crispy the fish white and thick. Lovely chunky chips and fresh salad with a tasty dressing. It was the best fish I've had in a long time, good quality and cooked perfectly. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino after which was lovely hot and creamy. The accessible toilet was large and clean with a higher seat if you need it. Accessibility wise the front steps have no ramp so I'm not sure if they have a different entrance with more level access. The car park is up a hill behind the pub with some parking out front which can be very busy. I was not in my chair for this visit. For me it was slightly difficult to access but once inside easy to get around and Very much worth the effort. 5 stars for the food and service.
