Retured to the venue as part of an event organised by the UK S2000 Owners Club in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. The pub opened early for our cohort and put on a very good bacon butty with drink for a reasonable fee. We went off on our event and returned around 1600 for a late lunch. The food timing, quality, and Price were spot on as was the service. Often difficult to find a pub willing to do something outside of the ordinary but this place went above and beyond, it was truly appreciated. We'll definitely be back again, and again, as we cannot fault anything. ===ORIGINAL BELOW=== Dropped in for a lunchtime meal with friends and we should've booked ahead! Every table was reserved but we were fortunate that we could hop on one before the reservation time came around. BOOK AHEAD PEOPLE! In addition to the main menu there was a smaller Burn's Night menu and boy is that something special; the photographs are of the battered burger and it wasn't just a battered burger! It was a lightly coated herbed batter which was everything I wanted and more. Served in a brioche bun with only brown sauce. Perhaps not to everyone's taste but it was perfect for me. The chips it came with were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, also perfectly done. On the table we also had haggis loaded fries (loved), a gammon chop (amazing), and a fish goujon sandwich (so tasty). None of us could fault a thing, the staff were lovely to boot.

We stopped here for Sunday lunch after a lovely walk at Dovedale and before a long journey home. The pub was very busy with lots of very young children and dogs. The food was really good, but the service was very slow. The 'braised feather blade of beef' was absolutely delicious. The meat just fell apart and had taken on the red wine flavour. The rest of the plate was equally as good. Without hesitation I'd order that again. We had booked a table for 1:00pm and were prompt arriving. Our drinks order was quickly taken, and served - and we were promised that someone would shortly take our food order. The table had a second reserved sign for 2:30pm and so we were given 90mins for our lunch. When it got to 1:30pm and our order had still not been taken, we ordered our own food at the bar, and finally got our meals at 1:50pm - a full 50mins after arriving. Having learned, we ordered our own deserts at the bar, but by the time they'd arrived and been eaten it was 2:45pm. So our apologies to the next diners. If the pub wants to flip tables in 90mins then they really do need to get the food out onto the tables quickly. The pub has plenty of parking in two car parks, and also a large outside seating area which is partly covered.

Dropped in on the way back from Matlock to Ilam, looking for somewhere to eat. Couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome! Lovely little pub who managed to accommodate the 2 of us for an early evening meal, leaving the reserved table free for it's planned guests. Will served us during our visit, and he was super friendly, knowledgeable about the pub and the local area, and especially knowledgeable about the food produced at the pub. We opted for the steak and ale pie (spur of the moment decision) and it was yummy 😋 - thin crispy pastry, crushed peas, amazing gravy, and served with what I thought was too few chips (there's never enough 😀 ), but actually there was more than enough. Also went for the black forest dessert - again, superbly tasty. Would definitely recommend this place, and wouldn't hesitate to drop in next time we're passing that way. Oh, and don't forget the beautiful log fire !! 🔥

Nipped here for lunch after a walk at Thorpe Cloud with friends. Being Coeliac and this being a small country pub, I wasn't expecting anything that would be gluten free at all and prepared for my usual salted pack of crisps. How wrong I was!! The menu had plenty of options that were either gluten free or could be adaptable to gluten so I was spoilt for choice. We sat outside in the lovely seating area, which has both open and undercover areas (again a great idea, especially with the British weather) it was a beautiful day after all, so I can't comment on the atmosphere. We ordered food and drinks at the bar inside. The pub itself is gorgeous and very well decorated. It has a nice homely feel and I imagine in winter that it's really cosy. The staff were helpful and friendly and the service was quick. The food when it came was really good. I had a chicken and baconmaise sandwich and it went down a treat with a latte. They even had decent GF bread, which always makes a big difference to us GF bods!! Overall, really lovely place to visit. My friends advised that it does get busy at weekends and school holidays so best to get there early for lunch at 12 onwards. Oh and dogs are welcome too, both outside and inside (on a lead of course) A fabulous place that I'll definitely be going back to on my next visit to...

We came in for Sunday lunch ,midway our trail walk ,the place was very busy ,we had not bookeda table ,but we were lucky to be accommodated ,as long as we did not ,over stay ,as the table was reserved . Our waitress ,which we did not quite catch her name (Dark hair with a scarf on)was very friendly & welcoming & lovely. She fetched a jug of iced water for our table & took our drinks order ,even asking if our dog would like some water ?(Dogs are very welcome here)she took us through the menu ,we opted for the roast beef. A lovely young boy brought out our meals to us ,we were amazed by how amazing our beef was & plenty of it ,just the right pink . Our waitress came over to ask how our meals were ,which we were very happy with & what lovely beef it was ,she mentioned that the meat was all local produce ,they support local farmers . We mentioned how generous they were about the plate size, which the waitress said their Chef Tony always plated up a good roast .(Thankyou Tony).after our plates were cleared ,the waitress offered us the dessert menu ,which all looked tempting, but we were just full up & still had the rest of the Trail walk to do . All in all the food was wonderful ,as was our waitress .Highly recommended this place is ,but vital to...
