We arrived at the bistro after a lovely day in the wildlife park our table was booked for 17.15 and we had 2 hours to dine before we were back off into the park for the winter illuminations this should have been plenty of time……..I was wrong!! First impressions were great we were seated straight away and had our drinks order taken these arrived quite promptly so thank you to the bar man who looked like he was in his own cocktail movie behind the bar. We waited over 15 minutes to order meanwhile about 5 other tables were seated and they all ordered before we did!! The young waitress was either new or very inexperienced when it came to prioritising customers. When we did ordered, 2 starters and a kids meal we asked for that to come at the same time as our granddaughter was getting hungry. The starters were out pretty quickly but we had to ask for the kiddies meal as they had forgotten. The Camembert cheese starter was probably the best meal of the evening however the bread was un toasted and the roasted garlic was not roasted at all. I always though bruschetta was toasted maybe I’m wrong because the prawn starter was just on bread!! This was where we seemed to be forgotten we finished our starter and no one was interested in clearing them away after what seemed like ages and we were now 18.20 I asked a young man who seemed very surprised to take away the empty plates and asked if they could bring the main courses. Maybe that was my mistake, maybe he didn’t inform the kitchen because we then waited over 30 minutes for 1 burger, 2 chicken burgers and a halloumi baguette!! I even asked twice how long it was going to be to be told the kitchen was very busy. Now I’m sorry but I don’t believe you as by this point most customers had left including the tables that came in after us so why did we have to wait so long and let me say it was not even worth the wait!! All of the burgers were cold and the halloumi which I thought may have been nicely grilled and bursting with pesto flavour sadly had seen no grill and had no pesto at all I could have made better at home. We were so disappointed and it really wasn’t worth the money...
Read moreI dined here this afternoon with my three-year-old son and my mother, the service was exceptionally slow and the waitresses were almost, well, hard to explain it, but like they didn’t want to be there. My mum had to send her meal back as it was freezing cold which took another 25 minutes to be returned where she had to eat on her own. Bill came to £78. We had bought desserts, wine and we had no check back whatsoever. Whenever we wanted something we had to usher for a waitress to come, baring in mind there were only three other tables in when we were there. when we asked for the bill and the waitress brought it over, my mum voiced our concerns regarding what we had experienced, all we got was sorry about that and a card machine pushed in her face. This is by the waitress called Fay who was extremely rude. Did not want to hear or listen to any of our concerns just wanted us to pay the bill and leave clearly. we asked to speak to the manager after this appalling service and reaction to which we were refunded for my mothers meal. We never complained for a refund we never wanted to not pay our meal. However if the complaint was dealt with correctly we would’ve been more than happy, however it appears possibly the waitresses need some more training regarding being a waitress as such or new staff who genuinely want to work there. there was however one waitress who seated our table I don’t remember her name however she had a hearing piece in and she was only young and she was brilliant. She recited back our order. She was more than attentive but then she must’ve gone home or on her dinner and ever since that the service just declined rapidly. This is a real shame as every other time we have been regular customers It has been fine but this one time and the way that it was dealt with by Faye I am unsure as to whether we will be returning. another thing to add is when we discussed with manager regarding the poor food, he told us it was because the chef was in a...
Read moreI went in expecting a pricy but decent enough meal. The short version, poor service, bad food, bad drinks and I would still have felt like I had been robbed at half the price.
Long version Given the location I expected a slightly above average cost however I did not expect the quality to be so far below par. To start off with we ordered two soft drinks, neither of which actually had any syrup and were just fizzy water, we sent those back, no issue, someone forgot to run the pumps after changing the syrups not a major drama we were given replacements without any fuss. When the food came my wife had a visually appealing sandwich that she said was quite nice, but refused to eat the fries that came with it as they tasted like "old oil". Not great for the premium cost. My meal was a decent size portion of fish with some of the worst batter I've ever come across, pale and soggy before it reached our table. I'm not even sure how to describe the chips, again very pale soggy, almost like they were pre boiled but forgotten to be fried before serving. I would have felt ripped off at £8 if I got this meal from a local chippy but the fact this was £20 from a "bistro" supposedly serving upmarket local produce is an utter joke.
All in, the meal cost over £40, when I went to the bar to pay I was promptly ignored by two young women having a chat and playing on their phones while the young lad who had served our table had to hurry up finishing what he was doing to take our payment.
I would also add, there was a total of maybe 6 other people in the rather spacious restaurant at the time. Clearly not run off their feet.
As we were staying in the hotel for the evening we were subjected to this sub par establishment again for breakfast.
The service was much better in the morning, very polite and prompt. However the food was sub par but servicable. I've had better at almost every cheap business hotel chain you...
