Tea at The Eagle and Child in Auckley for 4 ladies. So glad we booked it was heaving! Shown straight to our table. Table booked for 6pm. A young waiter took our drinks order at 6.15pm, drinks arrived 5-10 mins later. Food order taken as drinks were brought. Food arrived 6.50pm. Beautifully presented and everyone agreed it was delicious with quite large portions. I had surf and turf. Steak cooked to my liking with a generous amount of prawns. Other meals were beef bourginon, steak pie, Hunters chicken. Great that everyone ate everything. Just as we had finished a different waiter rocked up chewing gum to tell us we had 10mins to vacate the table. It was 7.05pm. He came back 5 mins later and told us we had to move as our table was booked at 7.30pm. Just as he walked off my friend asked if we could order another drink. He was very blasé and still chewing gum! It seemed too much trouble to get our drinks but he did after my friend pointed out he was rather cheeky , I would say rude! So we moved to a table in the bar that was vacated just at the right time as it was still busy. Unbelievably no-one was seated at our original table and we left at 9.50pm! We all agreed the food was delicious and the service from our 1st waiter was brilliant. The young gum chewing waiter needs to learn some customer service as he let the team down 🤨 We would go again for the excellent...
Read moreEagle and Child in Auckley is a nice pub mainly serving good quality food. Plenty of selection from the menu and daily specials on the boards inside. It's not you usual pub grub, more a restaurant inside a pub. Booking a reservation is recommended during peak times. The decor is old world style, clean and comfortable. Staff are pleasant polite and smart in appearance. On my visit I ordered the Eagle Grill at under £20 requesting the steak to be cooked medium. It arrived in around 20mins, steak, chicken, gammon and sausages were all cooked to perfection. Condiments brought to the table came in individual pots which could be a concern for the eco friendly due to the waste if unused and extra cleaning required, although individual pre packages could make the venue appear more cafe than quality. WiFi is available but you need to ask for the password, you will need this. I'm not sure if the area is a poor quality reception or because the walls to the pub are so thick it causes a signal problem. It's close to Doncaster Airport and the wildlife park and the neighbouring village Austerfield which was home to some of the original settlers of America who travelled on the Mayflower. If this review was informative enough for you give it a thumbs...
Read moreWent in just before Christmas with friends. My food choice was fine, The Festive pie others had was mundane and tasteless I was told. The issue we had was with the service. I/we are all for young people learning a trade/ having a part time job and gaining experience. However what we didn't like was the attitude of the young lady and man that served us. My honest opinion was that it was all too much effort for them. Never smiled, were asked about food and drinks yet never knew answers, were lacking in enthusiasm or social skills it seemed. Had to be asked several times to clear dirty pots after we'd finished after walking by them several times, even bringing new drinks to the table yet not clearing them away, even at the pudding stage, leaving glasses and dinner pots...its basic but seemed lacking in every way. Arguing about a pudding and snatching the plate away as though a complaint by a friend was a personal insult to them was the reason for this negative review. Appeared to be no supervision overseeing their lack of service or enthusiasm. Come in guys, it's off putting. Been many times yet this was...
