The Thompsons Bell — Restaurant in Dover

This place has had its ups and downs, unfortunately we hit it on a down. The lady behind the bar was lovely, friendly, helpful and efficient, but the food let it down badly. We ordered 4 small plates, the kitchen hadn't informed the front of house that they had run out of items, instead they replaced humous with salad dressing (?!), Sweet chilli dipping sauce with mango chutney, and the beetroot humus with feta and avocado, was just avocado,. The kitchen offered no explanation or apology, it was left to the bar lady to find out what was going on for us. The annoying thing was that the chef could have walked 30seconds down the road to Londis and bought all the missing items! Under the last manager the food was great, I believe it has recently changed management again, let's hope they sort the kitchen out. As It's our local we keep trying it, so hopefully it...

I am SO fussy when it comes a Sunday Roast, because everyone makes them better at home, right? NOT this one. Generous meat portions served with the best stuffing I've ever had, tasty roasties, a ginormous yorkie, and veg that was perfectly cooked (that might seem like an odd comment but I still have teeth and hate being served veg that you could suck up through a straw). Staff attentive and on hand for anything you need which wasn't a lot because you were given everything you'd hope for! The landlady clearly puts a lot of care into the layout, decor and atmosphere (music choice questionable if you're a Toffee like me) and you can tell she loves what she does, which just adds that little extra. Absolutely disappointed in this place the poor staff get treated like absolute dirt by there so called manager calling her staff out in front of members of the public regarding personal matters that should be kept private. Thought things couldn't get any worse I made a joke about all the bar staff being very young to then be told that the person serving me was only 16 thought this was illegal!! Tried to talk to the manager she didn't treat me with respect as a customer she seemed extremely rude and Abnoxious and didn't have the time of day for my complaint.
