Hilly House — Restaurant in Dudley

Never again - avoid at all cost. We have used this pub for years. However the last three times have been absolutely appalling. The food orders have been incorrect each time. The food hasn’t been very good at all either. As for the service - rude, incompetent and slow on every occasion. We still remained loyal and thought there were just a few glitches. But after today - never again. On today’s visit there were four other customers in total. The bar staff were playing cards, and then shouting and dancing around. They couldn’t put our order through correctly. After ten minutes their manager was called to assist with our order. We wanted the lunch time saver meal. It is small portions and just enough for my husband’s appetite. It is meant to be £4.95 for either a starter AND a main OR a main AND a dessert. She could not get the order right and just put a main through. I pointed this out but she point blank refused to honour the deal. Apparently the computer couldn’t change the order. I said that the computer didn’t need changing - we were paying for the deal. Eventually we asked for a refund. There was no apology.. In fact she went out of her way to be completely silent. She handed the money back to me without a solitary word and without even looking st me. Disgusting customer service. My husband is clearly disabled and yet the manager thought it was okay to keep us waiting at the bar for twenty minutes to then refuse to serve the deal offered on EVERY table. I visited Dudley over the weekend for my Nan's funeral and we decided to have one last family meal together before I had to return to Manchester. I was hesitant to agree to going to Hilly House as it's always been known as the place to underage drink but against my better judgement we went in for food.

Most of the drinks we tried to order had run out which should have been a sign of what was to come. We ordered our food and waited a long time for it to arrive. We were told that it was late because a big group had arrived but we could see where people exited the kitchen from where we were sat and the only food that came out was for a couple who arrived after us.

My mom and sister's food arrived and we were told that there were no chips and we should have been told that when we ordered but we weren't. The member of staff said she would get a free dessert to compensate - this never happened.

My steak arrived - with fries - not medium rare and missing the mushrooms and peppercorn sauce. My missing bits arrived after my wrong order had gone cold waiting for it. My partner's food never turned up because the waitress had dropped it on the floor.

When I wanted to complain the manager, Christie, refused to come out to speak to me because she was "too busy" to deal with customers and the other staff were very condescending. She told me I'd have to take it up...

Hilly house advertised a halloween party. Advertised to book in advance to avoid disappointment, I did this a month prior. Turned up on the 31st with a party of 10 (booked) to get there for the lady at the bar to say there's no seats as she didn't know who has booked and who hasn't. To be then shoved round the corner away from the party. This was also my daughters 10th. I had the cake brought out to her which they then left uncovered on the table we where sitting at. We ordered food and I requested steak with chips, Tom's, onion rings and peas and we'll done. My food arrived with steak, salad and medium rare. Social distancing was none existing and people where everywhere to the point you was nearly falling over people and kids, the pud it self is to small for functions that they offer and its more money making than safety or experience. My first time time here and my last. I booked to avoid disappointment as advertised and yet still was disappointed.
