Called to book at about 1pm for a table at 5, was told there was no need and to just walk in. Walked in with my family at 5ish and was asked if we had booked as there were no tables.great start. Was finally seated in the conservatory area which was busy with day drinkers and was very rowdy and loud. Not what we wanted with 8 9 and 13 year old kids and the mrs, not really relaxing family surroundings. Warm plates were bought to us which some were dirty with rice and food debris etc stuck on both sides. Food then took about another 10 minutes so the warm plates were cold. Skillet of mixed grille was not sizzling on arrival, and food went cold fast, had to wait another few minutes for clean plates so we could finally start eating what was now luke warm food at best. We asked the waitress for another drinks order as ours were gone while waiting for the food, and was told we would have to order at the bar, not ideal when the food is on the table. Naan bread were burned and wafer thin, and a resembled pitta bread. Chips were cheap oven chips with a poor attempt at seasoning, in the mixed grill all of the meat tasted ok but seemed poor/cheap quality. Shish was like a chunk of cheap dry doner meat, wings were grisly, chops were dry over cooked and fatty, fish pakora was in danger of not actually having any fish inside as all I got (out of a grand total of 3 pieces on a large£22 mixed grille) was a sliver of white meat with a load of greasy batter on it. Tikka was ok if a little overcooked. Drinks were good, one thing that's missing is an Indian beer, when I have a mixed grille I'd opt for cobra/kingfisher to complement it. Not a patch on soho cottage/oak,cherrywood or even the waterfront grille is better. Very disappointed as tapri is walking distance and I was excited to have a local place to spend my money. Won't be...
Read moreFirst time booking a table here. We reserved a table for 1830 expecting it to be busy. We arrived a few minutes late due to traffic, the restaurant was slightly busy with a party ongoing in the main bit. We was greeted by one waitress at the bar who didn’t seem that friendly. We explained we booked a table, but plenty of tables were free so we was allowed to choose where ever we wanted. Don’t see the point in booking a table in that case, no reserve signs were seen. We ordered 2 beers and 2 soft drinks that were fairly priced. A small food selection, nice to see veg and non veg menus available. Thought there would be more non veg curries available. The mix grills didn’t mention if they’re suitable for X amount of people. So, we ordered a boneless mix grill, garlic & corriander chicken curry, 2 naans and 4 popadoms. Popadoms were nice and fresh, along with tasty sauces. When the mix grill came out, I was expecting a sizzle but there wasn’t any, which made me think that it’s been sitting on the side, the onions that it was placed on, seemed like they were rehydrated type chopped onions. The meat and fish on the grill was nice, wasn’t dry, but wasn’t very hot nor cold. The chicken curry was very tasty, naan breads were ok but weren’t warm. Atmosphere wasn’t too bad either, we sat in the conservatory, kids were running in and out which was annoying as they wouldn’t close the door, however, plenty of Ants around and on our table which was very annoying. Very decent priced, should have gone for the next mix grill up, if it had stated how many people it was for then I would have selected it (sure I could have asked the staff, but I didn’t want to engage anymore with the staff who greeted us). Decent amount of parking available for the time we arrived. Sorry no...
Read moreVisited Tapri on a Thursday evening, really good to see the venue busy with lots of food being ordered. The venue was really modern, nice decor with lots of TV’s for the sport. We were sat in the conservatory area on the side, great space with a TV and plenty of room for the 6 of us. Drinks - usual top tier mixy lagers. Staropramen and cobra the staples on tap. We ordered the poppadoms to start us off, unusually the poppadoms are cooked in peanut oil so with an allergy sufferer in the party they had to skip these - good job we checked with the member of staff before ordering. For the mains, 2 large mixys, 2 garlic chilli prawn, 2 lollipop, 2 chilli chips and 2 naan. The mixy - missing the battered prawns but came with 3 lamb chops on each. Tikka really good, Lots of fish pakora. Only downside there was malai tikka which was slightly dry. Seekh and wings all very tasty. Lollipops - the best. Loads of meat on the bone dripping in thick nuclear red chilli sauce. Bit of a kick too which was great. Defo recommend. Garlic prawns - well worth the addition, lots of taste and loads on the plate. Fish pakora, nice crispy batter and lots of them as you can see on the pic. Chilli chips - really good. Getting difficult to separate some of these chilli chips now as most venues have them on lock. Dripping in sauce, crispy and Chunky - top notch. Naan breads keema and chilli cheese - on the smaller side but tasty not too thick not too thin, just right! Service - top notch, we were asked how the food was, ensured no peanuts would be cooked with etc. really attentive and friendly.
Would recommend Tapri. There’s so many mixy places now standing out is getting more difficult. For the the venue service and the food I recommend Tapri gornalwood for a...
