The Five Bells, Burwell, Suffolk. Several weeks ago myself and a friend had Sunday roast. The whole dining experience was faultless. Food was excellent. Staff was Polite and attentive. The pub was Immaculately clean. We told the pub landlord we would return. Today the same pub. What a contrast. Upon arrival. I went to the main bar. The atmosphere you could cut with a knife. Admittedly the bar person was serving another customer. Eventually there was a response from the bar person. I said good afternoon I made a reservation for 2. After being shown to a table. I went back to the bar to get a drink. This was quite simple. One pint of Carlsberg and can you put a smidgen of lime in the before you put the Carlsberg in please. What I got was nearly an inch and a half of lime cordial. Totally ruined the drink So much so I had to buy a further half pint of Carlsberg. It gets better. I ordered my starter and main course. I waited 30 minutes before the starter arrived. When it did come it was practically dropped on the table. My friend ordered chicken wings. At no time was my friend offered a finger bowl. Never ever have I seen such bad manners. I asked to speak too the pub landlord. I got too talk to the head bar person. I complained about what I have previously mentioned. The head bar person come to our table with a finger bowl and liquid soap in bottle. Bit ott with the soap. As far as I'm concerned I will not being going back to this establishment. The food was excellent. The staff Arrogant and rude. Did not make us feel welcomed at all. Shame it is a nice pub or could be with the right staff....
Read moreAn overall lovely Greene King pub. Pub food was nicely cooked. I had Ham, eggs and fries. Ham was good thick slices. Served with slaw. My husband had Texan rack of ribs which fell off the bone. We also ordered hallmoumi fries. The Pub garden is fab for both entertainment and families with children. The Seating area has been thoughtfully arranged so that they are around the boundary of the garden leaving a lawned area for live music of children playing. There is an enclosed section of the garden with children's apparatus to play and climb on. Whilst we was there, there was a group playing folk music. The only downside is there isn't adequate parking on site. About 3 or 4 spaces. So you have to park along a busy road. Hence 4 stars out of 5. But the food, the pub, the garden and the service are a lovely stop for a bite to eat after visiting Anglesey Abbey or in...

Also covered outside area if need shelter from weather. We were told as we didn't have a booking, food order could be 45 minutes, we accepted that and had drinks in garden whilst waiting. A good selection of beers were available. We were called in by staff as our table was ready, time wise it was around 40 minutes so we were pleased. Food selection was good, had specials as well.
