Excellent. The Malsters Arms is an ancient traditional village pub that has maximised the use of its available space, whilst retaining its character and charm. Cosy village pub interior at the front, with a large (modernised but charmingly interesting) adjoining skittle alley, now used as a versatile space for eating, drinking, parties and receptions. Two (dog friendly) beer gardens, an outer seating area and an outdoor bar make this a very adaptable venue, whether to prop up the bar for a pint or to eat comfortably with friends and family, plus dog.
The menu is simple, traditional, honest, wholesome and caters for all tastes. In terms of quality and price, the food is excellent, robust, tasty, hot, fresh, high quality and beautifully presented, and there is the usual comprehensive range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks from the various bars.
For example, tasty flaky-white fresh crisp line-caught battered fish with delicious chips, mushy peas and chunky tartar sauce, and a delicious steak and Doombar Ale pie with a generous helping of well made mashed potato and yummy red cabbage and crunchy greens - all piping hot and cooked to perfection: couldn't be bettered.
The owners and staff are absolutely charming, welcoming, helpful, informative and efficient. Excellent, hot, tasty, well presented food in a delightful sunny environment in a lovely village with ample parking - all at very reasonable price; what more could one want?
So, 5 star service, 5 star quality, 5 star enjoyment. Highly recommended.
And thank you: looking forward to a...
Β Β Β Read moreAfter an afternoon at Crealy's, we were on the hunt for a high-rated, family-friendly pub in the area. A quick Google search led us to The Maltsters Ams in Woodbury and what a fantastic find it was.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Matt, the landlord, who, along with his partner, have been running the pub since 2013. The interiors have been beautifully updated, creating a welcoming and character-filled space that blends tradition with a fresh, stylish touch with a games area that has a pool table and a darts board and lots of football memorabilia.
They have also transformed the back of the pub into a beautiful restaurant offering an a la carte menu with a real emphasis on local and homemade ingredients.
The food was absolutely superb, my husband and I shared a beautifully baked Camembert, with a smoked chutney and crusty bread to start. Followed by a medium steak, with garlic butter, cider battered crispy onion rings, tomatoes and well seasoned fries and my husband had a homemade steak and ale pie, with bone marrow gravy, mash and veg. Every bite was a treat, and you could really taste the care and quality in each dish.
If you're ever in the area and looking for a cosy, welcoming atmosphere with outstanding food, weβd happily recommend The Maltsters Arms. Already looking forward to going...
