On a cold bleak January lunchtime, the Shanty Cafe was a welcome warm refuge from the grey winter. Ordering Coffee Soup and the home made burger - the food was good, the burger home made and delicious; the soup was cool and was sent back to be reheated, but otherwise delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful and the cafe soon filled up Given the location, the prices were good and the traffic in coast and beach walkers soon filled the cafe up. There is also easy wheel chair access, good toilet facilities and dogs are welcome (although muddy boots are requested to be left at the door) Such a nice warm refuge, we returned a couple of hours later for coffee and chocolate tiffin. Highly recommended - will consider paddling here in a sea kayak!

Worth popping in for the views. Reasonable selection of food. Gluten free cake available. There is a carpark nearby, see photo for prices.

Found this little gem of a place by accident. Wonderful scenery of the beach and sea 🌊. Sit outdoors in the open or undercover, or if you prefer, sit inside for a drink and snack/meal. Welcoming, friendly and polite staff, making sure I knew that my dog was also allowed inside. That's right very dog friendly 🐕. I just had a wonderful Strawberry milkshake and a slice of shortbread, which was very nice and well priced. Snacks, cake, side orders, sandwiches 🥪 and full meals are served here as well as many different types of drinks, all well priced. Hope to visit again soon. The cafe is right beside a paying car park and meters from the beach ⛱️, what else could you ask for on a sunny afternoon 😀.

The blond lady with hair in plaits serving ice cream on this really hot day was incredibly rude and we did not end up buying anything from this place as a result. After standing outside at what appears to be a serving hatch for a few minutes , this lady told me to "come inside the shop to be served" after seeing me and ignoring me until this point. Fair enough I did so and stood and waited some more. She continued to unpack serviettes and simply ignore me (the only person waiting to be served). I said "excuse me please can I buy some ice creams?" The response from this woman just left me in disbelief as she said "wait a minute I'm in the middle of something". Wow! I'd already waited long enough without acknowledgement and simply wanted to get some ice cream for my family. I told her to forget it and maybe think about speaking to people with respect who are willing to spend their money at this cafe. "Fine whatever" she replied as I left.

Wow!! Cleary the owners of this place must not care about making money and are comfortable with having rude member of staff turning their business away! I sat outside and heard another set of customers saying how rude this lady was to them.

Firstly if you dont want people waiting at the hatch then put a sign there as this happened to the next set of customers who were "ordered" inside by this woman. Secondly some basic customer service skills need implementing here quickly like acknowledging customers in a polite and friendly manner.

What a real shame as the beach is lovely but the...

A friend recommended we pay a visit here because he thought the food was excellent. I looked at the menu on your own website and even printed it out to take with us. We thought there are a few things we really fancied trying on the menu. It's a 110 mile round trip, so I took a day off work so I could treat my wife. We made it in one piece through the miles of very narrow lanes much of which were single track with a lot of traffic. I managed to find a parking place and paid my £3 for 3 hours just in case the service was slow as I could see they were busy. You can't imagine my disappointment when the menu there only had about half the things that the one we printed out this morning and there was none of the dishes we wanted. I asked the lady at the counter what was going on as we had travelled a long way because of what we had read on the website. I was told that they had reduced the menu and that they don't have time to change the info on the website and anyway the menu is constantly changing. That's very strange as I looked at the menu some time ago and it was the same then. We are very upset and angry, so much so that we left Branscombe never to return. Unfortunately I can't say if the food is any good but I do know they ruined our day all because they can't be bothered to keep their...

Drove for 4 hours to meet family here. Obviously drove down In a commercial classic van with my 2 young kids. Had bikes on the roof and was unable to get into the car park. Went to find help/advise and made the decision to go round the front as my van would of blocked the round a bout. Had two elderly man storm up and verbally abuse me! Explained in a clam manor and they told me to clear off! Never got to eat or even go in the pub. Told my family who also travelled a long way so went elsewhere.

Shame 10 adults 6 kids would of been a good bit of business but as the car parking old boys were so rude and intimidating we gave our money to another establishment. £234 plus £25 in tips

I would like to add that although I was in the wrong to go through the Ford under the circumstances it was the safest and most adult thing to do. Went back to the parking office to clear my name...parked on the round a bout and caused cars to back up. Was told I will be getting a parking ticket even though I never got to park.

Manors are free and would expect more from the older generation.

Poor show!

Looked stunning though and gutted we did not...
