Booked by phone for 7pm dinner slot on Bank Holiday Sunday,, with dog, no issues told we would be slotted iin, but we're busy. Arrived on time, stood at bar whilst 6 staff busied around oblivious to us and another couple waited to be seated. Waited patiently for several minutes to then be told that our allocated table now occupied by others, so another table had to be found. Eventually seated with dog near a party with the ubiquitous screaming baby. Ordered everything together, drinks & food , with explicit instructions not to wait until I was finished the soup to bring mains as wife had no starter. Spicy soup arrives, no drinks though until nearly finished soup. Then asked if I wanted the mains, as it was waiting, I replied yes as per my original request. It arrives another 10 mins later. It's now 1 hour since we arrived to us getting the mains to the table. I'm starting to get irritated now. Table is cleared and I ask for dessert menu. Table opposite gets menu, orders theirs and I'm then asked by their waitress is everything ok. I reply no, get menu and after another 5 minutes of no service, go to the bar and order myself, at this point it is far less busy. Table opposite gets their pudding, at this point I'm now livid with the lack of service, and tell waitress so. My sweet arrives without the coffee I ordered My wife complains about the appalling service, we get the bill with a reduction, but that isn't the point. Over 2 hours for 3 courses, the continual prompting, whilst the food is very good, the service is dire. Spoilt what should have been a lovely evening. Avoid if you want your food the same day you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat an absolute gem this place is! A friend of mine recently alerted me to The Deers Hut and I bought my mother here for her birthday off the cuff as we had a loose plan with no reservations. Staff were wonderful from start to finish, from the called to book a table 30mins before arrival all the way to the end of the night. They were so friendly and attentive without being pushy and clearly work well together which was lovely to see. The food was wonderful, beautiful flavours that shows real skill from the chef and the specials were a wonderful compliment to the standard menu. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm with no sense of being an outsider. The pub being dog friendly is absolutely wonderful as this was the make or break for us as we had my dog with me and he was welcomed and fussed over by staff. He wasn't allowed in the restaurant side which is absolutely fine as we were more than happy to be bar side and that also allows space for people to dine in a dog free environment in the restaurant. The staff were amazing and seemed to be always on the go but without the air of being too busy to help you or that they were being worked too hard. Everyone seemed to be working in synch with makes it seem like it's a lovely place to work and everyone is happy to be there. The decor was tasteful and interesting with beautiful planters on entry. There is a large outdoor space as well as lots of tables to the front and a very large carpark. Truly impressive place and will happily come back again when I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreShould have been an enjoyable "date night", but sadly turned into an episode from Fawlty towers. We know this is a lovely pub in a great setting, good table service with a smile just what you'd want. But on this occasion when we first arrived we were first offered the table of shame, just inside the main door at the end of the bar all on its own, we politely asked to be seated elsewhere, preferably in a seated area with other diners. We then ordered and during our 3 courses had to sit and eat whilst enduring in what can only be described as a dining scene complete with Basil Fawlty and 3 others, stripping down tables, moving tables, redressing tables, then returning 3 minutes later to undo all what they'd just done, fine ok, but then 5 minutes later return again to duplicate it all over again without so much as an apology or recognition that there were actual customers trying to enjoy a night out and eat their meal without getting indigestion. Obviously the "special" family arriving were far more important than the casual customers present, (and not just us, but another table also commented on their departure.) So basically, please be aware of other customers and not just the select few please. Sadly I don't think we'll...
