Came here with a small group after a local run. The location and look of the pub was fantastic but unfortunately we were greeted incredibly rudely by the bar staff. We asked if it was possible to order food and got a surly response of - ‘well I suppose I’ll have to take your order but the chef won’t be happy’ among other grumbles. There was no welcome or even a smile. There was only 10 of us and we were told the kitchen was still open so it seemed like an uncalled for response. This was on Good Friday at 8pm, the pub only had a handful of people inside and the barman was rude to everyone in our party that ordered food. We felt like they must be doing very well as a business to be so openly hostile to customers. Got the feeling they had already decided they were closing early and were not happy to have the custom. One of our runners had a small amount of mud on his shoes (he apologised) but this also drew grumbles from the barman. As a rural village pub that seems to welcome walkers regularly, therefore a common occurrence, this just felt like another excuse for the barman to grunt like a moody teenager. There was a disappointing lack of hospitality and as a group we would not return. I decided not to order food because I couldn’t fathom someone being so rude and didn’t want to spend my money there. Those that had food said it was ok. In a time when local pubs are struggling, it seems very odd to give off the attitude that you don’t...
Read moreGreat food. In fact fantastic food. Sadly totally let down by appalling service. Staff were all nice but totally ignored you once you had your main meal. That was it. No 'Is everything okay?', 'can I get you anything else?' , 'Would you like more drinks?' Or 'Would you like a dessert..?' which we really did. Not even out plates cleared which sat for over an hour in front of us! We sat knives and forks together sat back to show we were done. I couldn't catch anyone's eyes. Noone looked our end. In fact all the tables our end were the same bar one which got cleared and only because he called out. I couldnt even wave as noone looked. Finally we gave up. I honestly think we could have walked out and noobe notice. We put our coats on and walked to the bar. Noone asked if we enjoyed our food we were just handed the bill and thanked. I was really shocked as the plan was to return and book a room. But no we won't. I hate being totally ignored when the desserts looked amazing. I noticed several tables mumbling about the same thing. Saw another table give up on dessert and go to get the bill from the bar too. I feel let down. They won't sell many desserts if they dont take orders for them!!...
Read moreNicer than average food in a pretty village. BUT DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The Bar manager is the rudest man I have ever met & Ye Old George is really only happy to sell food & beer. They are not interested in the guest needs & lock the doors between 3.00 & 6.00 pm & after midnight therefore giving no access to the rooms if you venture out. Our daughters honeymoon night was ruined as our wedding party was locking out at midnight & were unable to gain access for 20 minutes, left stranded in the car park. We had booking 6 rooms over 2 nights, had 3 meals spending in excess of £750. No apology was offered from either the bar manager or the owners. (with the exception Becky the only nice staff member) The owner admitted the same issue had arisen earlier in the year with another wedding party who had to resort to breaking in to get back to their rooms. Guests are treated as & I quote "Townies" and are an unwelcome inconvenience if they deem to leave the premises. I have never posted a bad review before but Ye Olde George has treated us & others appallingly with...
