Today myself, my wife and our baby boy visited the lakes restaurant for lunch. To say we where disappointed is an understatement, we ordered 2 roast dinners and a pizza for our son. The restaurant was littered with flies all over our food and watching other guests dealing with the same issues was outrageous.

Our food came, I'd almost finished my meal when wife came across a hair in her food. We have dined at some of the best restaurants in the UK and abroad as a family but we've never come across flies in our food and drink. My wife couldn't continue to eat and immediately wanted to leave, after getting the waitresses attention and showed her the hair she was so apologetic and rushed off to see the manager.

The waitress came back and told us that my wife's meal had been taken off the bill, My wife stayed to speak to the manager who had been sat outside the restaurant the entire time we'd been dining, smoking and drinking. After my wife spoke to the manager he only then decided to take my sons meal off the bill as my wife explained there had been flies all over the food.

In that time he remained seated outside and didn't pay my wife the common decency to stand up or apologise for the poor dinning experience whilst my wife had explained to him why we where disappointed in our meal. My wife found him really rude and unprofessional and also didn't seem to take my wife's comments serious.

All in all it was a dreadful experience for my family. Our experience is our own I'm sure everyone else will have their own experience, It's a shame really but hopefully these issues will be resolved for every...

So disappointed. We booked here for a nice meal on our holiday as the website made it look really lovely. It was a little busy when we arrived having booked a table but not manic. We were seated at a little table in front of some patio doors out onto the decking. A member of staff had collected some glasses leaving the door open and as it had been raining all day it was cold. He locked the door. Shortly after several children kept trying to open the door to get onto the patio. I'm not sure where their parents were but after about 10 minutes of them repeatedly trying a member of staff said he would unlock the door for them. We then had to endure kids repeatedly opening the door which was about 4 feet from us, leaving it open and us having to close it because it was freezing. We then waited 40 minutes for our food whilst having to shiver in the meantime. In the end I had to ask what was happening with our food as other tables who had ordered after us were getting their food yet we were still waiting. Once we eventually got our food we then had to endure being plunged into darkness for a loud rendition of happy birthday for someone and could barely hear ourselves think. All we wanted was a quiet meal. We got anything but. The food was nice enough but the evening was ruined by that point. Genuinely disappointed as if the door had been left locked the kids would have had to presumably stay around the parents who had presumably brought them out and the fact that the food took a lifetime was again a...

First, I realised I left without leaving a much deserved tip to the waitresses (which most probably was to do with the rather disappointing phone text I had on my mind just before leaving) and do apologise for this 😳. The staff were clean, smartly dressed, friendly and welcoming, giving attention and clearing the tables at the right times. It shows they have been trained well and the owner cares about the customer. If you want a day out, go visit Gunby Hall - but EAT in The Lakes Restaurant! The food is much better than we expected, home-cooked the traditional way, along with hand cut chips, the best garlic bread I ever tasted, and the salad was spot on! I mustn't forget to mention the tamarisu...it was sooooo good - light, fluffy, and the flavours were perfectly balanced (home-made too!). You really get your money's worth here, and I would greatly recommend this place. Lastly - I hope this good review makes up for me forgetting the tip! (P. S. There's more on the plate than looks in the picture, and I ate every bit πŸ˜ƒ) UPDATE:Went to try their Sunday Roast and we were all very pleasantly surprised! It was absolutely delicious and each item was cooked to perfection... What more...

This was our first visit here & we will probably try again in the future. It's a nice spaced out modern restaurant with pleasant views to the lake. A good assorted menu on offer, not expensive but nor cheap. The food was lovely & cooked to perfection, all credit to the chef. The service not quite so good. Seems to be lots of staff, which is great, but they weren't particularly attentive & more interested in joking about with each other. After our meals & table was cleared we waited 15mins for the bill, looking over at staff as they wandered around hoping someone may come over. In the end we had to shout over as one of them passed to have our bill. I think if we hadn't it would have been quite easy to have just left our table & walked out without anybody even noticing, which is a shame as it did taint the experience. I don't enjoy putting a local business down but it is an honest review, hence the 3 stars & we will try again in the future as the food was great. It will interesting to see if it's any different on our return.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, menu is a complete fraud of miller and carter for sure a violation of intellectual property. I ordered a 15oz rib eye and received a leathery 7/8oz sirloin steak, service was absolutely horrific and will not be visiting again, after raising my grievance with a server I was completely ignored and no communication or solution was given, after this had to wait 25 minutes to pay after we got the bill was made to pay in FULL by another server who completely ignored my grievance again, only after complaining AGAIN to the manager after I had paid was i rebated 10% of my bill and told they were AWARE of their menu incorrectly stating a 15oz ribeye instead of a 8oz one, yet still let me buy a product they knowingly don’t sell, NOT happy and will NOT be visiting again, especially for a birthday.
