Crown inn SNAPE — Restaurant in East Suffolk

The new italian dining room at this pub is a welcome addition to the local offerings. But having visited for the first time I'm not sure how often we would visit, The menu is a little limited, secondi are all pasta, and the Lobster tortellini we had although very nice were a small portion for the high price charged, even taking into account the expensive ingredients. We needed a pudding to fill the gap! There is no menu on the website, so you might not realise before arriving that this is almost fine dining. I assume that the lunch menu is the same so not really a family friendly option I'd say. This may not be the target market for the owners.... The decor is nicely done and the staff were friendly but it wasn't that busy for a Friday night. I'm sure in peak season it will be busier, but as locals with lots of other options not that far away, we wouldn't rush...

Unfortunately not a great experience at this pub at all. One of us had the roast beef which was dry, cremated and exceptionally tough. The vegetables and roast potatoes were clearly just reheated from frozen and just freezer Yorkshire puddings- totally inedible. We ordered the beef lasagne for our 2 year old as we was told anything on the main menu could be a children’s portion, she absolutely loved it and ate it all, however, when the bill arrived we was shocked to see that it had been charged at normal price (it was clearly childrens portion size as pretty small). 2 stars for my husbands meal which was fine and my daughters as she did enjoy it. New owners of the Crown have done a great job of offering an authentic Italian restaurant... this is a bit more than a "gastro pub" and we were very impressed by the food and service... at a reasonable price. They could probably charge more... however pleased they dont as Snape is rather dominated by the Maltings and it's great to have a good alternative... with the right quality. I had a calamari starter which was outstanding... something that is on so many menus but difficult to cook just right.

Don't be put off by reviews from previous years.... the new team have really got it right and they deserve...
