As part of a trip out to Snape Maltings whilst on holiday up this way, I went to the Plough and Sail for lunch with my girlfriend and a couple others, we hadn't booked in advance and as we walked in we could see it was absolutely packed but they managed to squeeze us in by the bar. Great service from the get go and the food was simply fantastic. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone! I would even go so far as to say I would come back on holiday up here and go out of my way to come back to this restaurant. Complete gem of a find, highly recommended you visit here!!

We’ve just finished a week staying in the huge Dutch Barge in Snape Maltings. We had a few beers on the odd occasion here during the week. Of course 😉. Just had a lovely meal here on our last night wonderful food , good beer and decent Malbec. Staff rushed off their feet because it was far busier than usual on a Sunday night (fantastic weather perhaps?), but despite this, the service was excellent, and even the Chef had time for a friendly chat with us after it quietened down a bit. Can’t fault the place. A most pleasant evening.

Went here for dinner with friends. The place has a nice ambience and the tables inside were roomy and we didn’t feel cramped at all. Service was great. The food was nice, but just a couple if small criticisms. I thought it was a little on the pricey side for the portion sizes we received. The ladies had beef cheeks which, while tasty, were dry. I had lamb which very tasty but only a small piece of meat. We did enjoy the experience overall.

As a party of 4 we were seated and asked what drinks we would like , these were brought to us , we were asked if we would like a jug of water , we said yes , this never arrived , we asked later for water and again it never arrived. After 10 minutes of the waitress casually wondering past us I had to ask if we could order food , this took 40 minutes to arrive , during this time we ordered coffees , the waitress had to be reminded we ordered coffees as she had forgotten . 2 of the meals had items missing and were brought out separately . I asked for the bill and after 10 minutes of waiting I decided to goto the bar to pay , after speaking to 2 people we were given the bill , I then stood there with cash to pay but was ignored , eventually someone took the money and asked if everything was ok , I said no and told them everything that had happened , they sent the manager over , his excuse was that it was a bank holiday and they were very busy . A lot of table's were empty when we arrived as they were reserved , they were not busy , just a badly run business . The 1* I have given is because the manager gave us a full refund , he said if you don't want to pay have your money back and thrust it in my hand . I would of paid as the food was good , the service was shockingly bad , I won't be going back or...

The food was ok quality but lacking in seasoning, our group all felt portion sizes were small when you consider the price (starters were around £10-11 but for that you only get a few small pieces of food).

If you look up the restaurant appears to have a fly problem, none landing on our food luckily but not exactly a pleasant atmosphere when there are plenty visible a foot or two above your head.

The atmosphere felt a little flat to be honest, the flies I already mentioned didn't help, but this is the third or so time we've eaten here and they have been present each time. I also felt sorry for the couple sitting close to the specials board, plenty of people kept coming up and standing very close to them and they were clearly bothered by it.

And finally, a real bugbear of mine with restaurants, adding a service charge on to the bill. I find this type of charge from restaurants to be very poor form, if they feel their staff are not paid enough then they should up the prices on their menu so they can afford to pay a living wage, not force their customers to feel uncomfortable asking for the charge to be removed, which rather sullies the end experience. If we wish to tip for excellent service we will, it is extremely rude to...

Went in on one occasion for a drink as staying nearby. The welcome was less than effusive as the two bar staff were too busy bending over backwards for four locals sitting on stools at the bar. Finally got a drink but the atmosphere was pretty dead. Decided, given all of the positive reviews on here to give it another try in the evening for a meal. We popped in to see if we could book a table but were told curtly by a young woman behind the bar they were fully booked. Contrast that with the next two pubs we tried. The first apologised for not being able to fit us in and offered a table for the following night and the second did not answer our call but phoned us back within 5 minutes and fitted us in despite being very busy. Both offered a kind, helpful and...
