visited Thorpeness with my girlfriend to have a relaxing getaway and I was not disappointed in the slightest. We stayed at ‘The Kitchen’ which is a beautiful modern accommodation that surrounds a very humble cafe.

The room we stayed in was on the bottom floor left to the cafe, as we entered we were greeted by a very modern and colourful room. The living space of the room was more than I expected, it had a corner style sofa in the middle surrounding the TV which during the night when it’s raining and dark was very cosy to sit and relax. The bedroom met and exceeded our standards as the bed was absolutely huge and was unbelievably comfy, there was two windows in front of the bed so waking up to natural light was a bonus. The kitchen space was very neat and tucked away yet provided everything you needed if you were too cook/prepare food there, having an oven, microwave, fridge and a countertop made it very useful. The only downside to this accommodation was the bathroom due to the fact that it was OVERLY hot in the bathroom even with the fan running and the heating off, there was nothing wrong with the shower and toilet they were clean and respectful it’s just the heat that you had to put up with was almost faint worthy but a nice bathroom none the less.

The Kitchen Cafe was a small yet beautiful area to relax in, all the seating arrangements within the cafe were a comfortable distance apart from each other and the service they provided was perfect. I went there for breakfast on the final day of my stay and I was not disappointed I had a bacon, egg and sausage roll and it was unreal while my girlfriend had salmon & scrambled egg on toast which she was more than satisfied with.

The area which “The Kitchen” is located is just beautiful, behind the accommodation is the sea front literally being a 30 second walk, down the road is a lovely local pub to which the people are so down to earth and friendly in. Opposite your stay is a small lake which is beautiful to sit around.

The only reason this didn’t get an “Excellent” review is for the fact of the uncontrollable heat from the bathroom and that if you are planning to eat within the room or atleast have some supplies in the room the nearest shop is a good 10/15 minute drive through an unsigned area.

I would HIGHLY recommend this...

Thorpeness was a small fishing hamlet which was developed in the early 20th century into an exclusive holiday village. The village is full of characterful houses, including the unique house in the clouds.

At the heart of the village is an artificial boating lake known as the Meare. I remember boating here in the 1970s. This was January though and it was closed.

What was open was the Kitchen at Thorpeness. This was a modern building serving a range of drinks and food, as well as having a nostalgic emporium in the back.

When I went in, it was really busy, the village was very quiet, but the cafe was packed. I was given a warm welcome and asked what I wanted. I placed my order at the counter and took a seat at the table. I had been tempted by the cakes and scones, but I had had a big breakfast. It wasn’t long before my coffee arrived.

They serve Illy coffee, and this was an excellent flat white. I spent a pleasant time in the Kitchen, drinking my coffee and getting some work done.

Really enjoyed my coffee, and I as on my way out tempted to stay for a scone, but didn’t have the time. If I find myself in the area again, I will certainly visit, and maybe have a...

Excellent cafe situated in the centre of Thorpeness. There's a car park at the rear plus a antiques and curios shop attached. At the front, overlooking the pond, is a good sized seating area with parasols at each table. Which were a necessity today as the heat was extreme 😳. Dogs are welcome inside or out and there's water available. Food wise there's an excellent selection from home made sausage rolls and sandwiches cakes and delicious scones. Or for the hungrier 'luncher'... there's more substantial food. I opted for home made Mackrell pate, Beetroot salad, and crusty bread. The pate was full of chunky fish pieces and delicious 😋 complimented by the pickled Beetroot salad and green leaves. I thoroughly enjoyed it and washed it down with a local Adnams beer ( the cafe is licenced ). The food is ordered at the counter, giving me the chance to look at the yummy food and make a good choice. Then the lovely staff serve to table. I would highly recommend.
