I had a lovely evening with school friends. A nice table, nice surroundings and very nice staff who did a great job. However, Brigadier Gerard, I'm sorry to say that my food was terrible. I ordered cheesy nachos (main meal) I think from memory about £16. This came and it was a dinner plate full of tortilla chips (not very good ones) which had quite tasteless cheese melted into it until it formed a hard and impenetrable frisbee. On top was some type of chilli flavoured ketchup and a bit of white which I would not describe as sour cream. There was some raw onion and coriander... and that was it! You obviously couldn't cut it, and going in with fingers was equally unsuccessful, so I had to leave most of it, it was unpleasant. I decided to cheer myself up with a dessert and ordered Eton mess. This was a bowl of strawberry ice cream with some still frozen berries in it, a very small sprinkling of meringue, not even a mouthful, and some squirty cream on top. The quality again very disappointing and not an enjoyable meal. I think maybe my friends' burgers we're slightly better, but my meal was certainly very poor and I paid £30 for this on a shared bill, we were all drinking lime and soda and other soft drinks. I drove home for some food. If you could improve on the food then it would have been such a lovely experience and, as said earlier, the...

After hearing about the previous landlord I never thought I would visit this public house in Horton Heath however upon request of a meal out I thought I would give it a try and I am pleased I did. I rang the establishment to book a table which was in the bar area as the restaurant was fully booked. The booking was easy and straightforward. We arrived at the said time and was taken to our table. A drinks order taken and given soon after. The selection on the menu includes the classic fish and chips, and lasagna however there is also a specials board. The servers were friendly and all food that was ordered came in a good amount of time. The quality of the food was very good, homemade and with a good sized portion. This is not a cheap place to eat however it is not expensive either. We enjoyed a three course meal and a couple of bitter shandy’s. The place is clean looking and I could not find fault with my experience. If you are passing by and would like to try this place please do as I’m sure you will not be disappointed. Please don’t be put off by tales of the old landlord for he is long gone so please give this place a chance to...

This has been a great pub with decent food. We have been in perhaps a dozen times in the last two years. Last night we had a terrible experience there. We arrived at 6 pm to get an early dinner. Previously the person managing tables was one of the owners, Pat. She always did her best to accomodate late arrivals. This time we were eventually approached by another member of staff. Our request to eat for two people got the response - Nope. Nothing more, no explanation. There were a bunch of reserved signs on tables, but the restaurant was three quarters empty. There were seats against the wall where we know that people have been seated for dinner, but that wasn't offered. There was a space in the sit down sofa area but again not offered.

I was extremely disappointed by the rudeness of the person. They are, after all, in the hospitality business.

Avoid this place at all costs unless you like being snapped at by the poor quality of staff that was on...

Emailed prior to arrival to check they have Gluten Free items. Received a response from the landlady explaining that items are marked, chips are GF but cooked in the same frier, and she also listed the specials they have on at the moment that are GF. On arrival I informed our server that I require GF which she understood and informed the kitchen. I ordered the chicken topped with spicy tomato sauce and cheese (specials menu) which was lovely. Hubby had the pizza. He said it was nice but could have been crispier. It’s nice to go out and have a menu marked with GF items, I don’t know why more places can’t do this

Clean pub, friendly and welcoming. Dogs and children welcome. Food was very good, good quantity and plentiful choice, and has remained good quality when I have visited. Drinks were brought to table but you could also order at the bar. Quite a good size car park but lots of cars. Outside area and a smokers hut. Definitely one to visit if you are in the area. Would recommend booking ideally, and also be aware people tend to eat early and leave quite early compare to some pubs in the area.

Brigadier Gerrard was a fantastic choice for dinner. We arrived without a reservation, but they were accommodating and found us a table right away. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. For dessert, we indulged in a heavenly Biscoff cheesecake. We were thoroughly impressed with the service and would highly recommend Brigadier Gerrard to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
