Positive: This is a nice family restaurant with a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. We visited as a group of 10 and found the overall vibe welcoming. The food was tasty when it eventually arrived. My medium-rare steak was cooked great, the peppercorns sauce was delicious, Bruschetta was nice too. The waitress serving us was friendly.
Negative: Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow. We were seated at 6:40pm but didn’t receive our mains until just after 8:30pm. By then we were basically starving so we ate very quickly, no longer than 10 min. The plates weren’t cleared until around 9:20pm. (Took 10 min to clean 10 plates, I timed it as it was getting ridiculous) Due to the delays, we decided to skip dessert entirely which was unfortunate as we were very keen to try some( not that they asked if we wanted any) We even ended up going to the counter ourselves to pay, as no staff returned to our table.
The area we were seated in was uncomfortably hot, several of us had to take turns stepping outside to cool down. We asked if a window could be opened, but nothing came of it. Additionally, when a fork was accidentally knocked to the floor by the waitress, it was never replaced.
While we understand that serving a group of 10 can be tricky, the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. In fact, compared to another restaurant we visited days earlier with the same size group, the pace here was disappointing.
Sadly, based on this experience, our group...
Read moreOne major problem: NO HEATING ON, AND IT WAS FREEZING INSIDE. THEY BROUGHT A ELECTRIC RADIATOR, AT OUR REQUEST, AFTER TELLING THEM HOW VERY COLD WE WERE. THANKYOU, BUT DIDNT REALLY WARM US UP AT ALL.. THEY TOLD US THE BOILER HAD BROKEN DOWN AND THAT THERE WAS NO HEATING IN THE PUB AT ALL. I MAY BE NIEVE, BUT IS THIS RIGHT? SHOULD THEY NOT HAVE PUT ON AN ALTERNATIVE HEATING SUPPLY, OR NOT OPENED AT ALL UNTIL THE BOILER WAS FIXED ?? We were a party of 8 of mixed ages and health conditions, and without doubt my brother in law who has COPD, was suffering badly. However for the sake of the family he didnt want to make a fuss or draw attention to himself. Thanks Brian. We were there on Saturday 28th December at 12.30. On a very very positive note, the food was good, but the staff were phenominal. Professional, entertaining , incredably humourous and coped so well with us over our comments re the heating. Thankyou. We recommended you to my sister and family based on my own sons recommendation as he visited you on many occasions in the past. We were going to The Wheatsheef on Esher Green !!!! So, just to make it clear, formally residents of Surbiton and now living in Somerset, we know our pubs.. This very long posting is not of complaint per say, but of comment and suggestion and recommendation to the Management that there future is based on their today. It you wish to contact me, please refer to the original booking for details. Thankyou for...
Read moreI've given this a 2. And that is for the food. Customer service is none existing, and it felt like we were in a dictatorship rather than a public house! If you're stay in at the premier inn Unless you go for breakfast by 8am at the latest, by 8.45 it is cleared away! And the 1st morning we had breakfast, as given us by the hotel, 8.30am. We at 8.38 were given specifically 7 mins to finish! I'm mean seriously! I spoke to the manager that night after a very long day at a funeralwhat had happened and he said the rulesb for breakfast are hard and fast, but not that specific. And it shouldn't have been presented that way! The next day was better as we all went down at 8am. And it was much more organised as there was another girl working too. So that night after speaking to the manager he came to our table and advised last orders. That was 10.30pm. We got a round in which in total was just short of 100 pounds per round. And at 10.50pm he came around and said 10 mins and we close. Why serve a round that takes about 10 mins to give out, and expect Everyone to throw it down us and get out. Then he became quite aggressive collecting glasses that were half full and said drink it in the car park! Totally unacceptable, and in the times we are in I'm surprised that any bar can afford to lose a busy night. Because it would have been a very busy night for the. Never again. Spend your money elsewhereand go to the village for...
