Bawdens is obviously popular - every time I've been there, they're busy - understandably, because everything they do is excellent. My very Cornish Mother-in-law used to make saffron cake, and she would definitely have approved of Bawdens; and their pasties. I called into the Old Bakery again this morning and asked for a bacon and egg sandwich. It was made to order, and was not only very full, but the bacon was proper bacon; thick and perfectly cooked. As always, the people who own and work there are very pleasant and approachable, and VERY enthusiastic about what they're doing. They're an asset to the local, and to the Cornish community.

Hands down the best pasty you’ll get in the area, and even better coffee to unlike any other served up around town, always a good pop in for lunch and or breakfast, inside is warm and inviting and sometimes thriving with conversation, definitely worth the drop in whenever around

Been here a few times now and has always been rubbish. Barely any meat in the actual pasty’ and so unwelcoming and unfriendly and over priced for the quality of food they. Got a pasty on the way through to work and they was burnt at the bottom. Horrible.

My partner and I were staying in the area for New Year. We were having a leisurely morning and decided we'd like to get some brunch. On doing a search of the area there didn't appear to be much open but The Bakery was. I hadn't registered that it was just a Bakery and might not do a plated breakfast so when we arrived we realised the menu was mainly designed around takeaway breakfast baps. We asked if they had any recommendations for anywhere in the area that might be able to do a breakfast and they weren't sure of anywhere that might be open. Julie then asked what we were looking for in a breakfast and she established that she had all the ingredients needed so very kindly offered to do a breakfast for my partner. She explained they had recently ordered some plates because they were going to move to dine-in as well as takeaway so we became their first dine-in customers and were happy to be guinea pigs! It was absolutely fabulous, every item of the breakfast was cooked to perfection and my partner was extremely happy with everything. I had a sausage and egg bap and that was also fabulous! They looked after us so well and didn't make us feel like an inconvenience. We also took away with us 2 cakes for our afternoon snack and they were also delightful! Would encourage everyone to visit them when in the area and support them as it's so nice to see local businesses doing well, especially in these tough times! We will be definitely be back in the summer so can't wait to see how they've evolved. Thank you so much!...

I am a shy person. Recently, I visited this bakery for the first time and my pasty on the bottom was black. I did not feel like I could say anything to the staff, as it’s not my nature to complain. I realise this is my own issue, and if I don’t say anything it won’t be fixed, which I accepted. That is how I was going to leave it- I wasn’t going to say anything, but after seeing a facebook post that others have had a similar experience, and the staff seem to be incapable of taking any sort of criticism, I decided I would. Can’t believe the way they allow their staff to speak to customers. One facebook comment FROM THE OWNER called a paying customer (with the same complaint as me), a “mong”, for stating their issue with the food (which is undeniably justifiable!). Is this how you’re growing your business? Spreading a warm welcome to all visitors? Another response THE OWNER wrote back to negative review on Google said “hope karma gets you well”!!! What sort of thing to say is that?? To? A? Customer? Sounds like the owners big words are compensating for something! I’d put a sign on the door: “Come in! We’re Open! Got a problem? That’s your problem!”, as it looks like nothing can be taken on the chin and improved but rather turned around onto the customer as a fault of their own. Terrible way to do business. I wouldn’t go here again, unless i’m in an unusual mood for some char and a good...

In response to your reply- you knew which word I was referring to without me even saying it so clearly you’re not as ignorant as you act. A simple google of the word “mong” would show what I am referring to immediately. However you “meant” it, that word is and has for decades been a slur for people with Down’s syndrome and using it to describe your customers is absurd. I would be happy to accept your apology at any time. Shocking that the owner is using derogatory terms for people with learning disabilities to insult his customers. I’m not sure the owner is in his right mind. Also getting your Mrs to leave a review as if she’s a customer and not your business partner is a bit embarrassing. Shame. Maybe own up to your mistakes instead of doubling down and causing your reputation further harm? Just...
