We tried to get a table at a nearby establishment but found it fully booked. Immediately, four separate people, who had overheard us at the bar, started speaking, urging us to go to the Bird in Bush. All four started giving us directions and it was comically difficult to follow any of them. But we found it just the same, and what a find! A great friendly local on the corner of the village green, with superb food and ales from the adjoining F & L (First and Last) brewery. One tiny word of warning - the driver was accidentally given a full-strength beer instead of the ordered 0% one, and only realised when most of it had been drunk. But we lingered over coffee and made the short drive to our hotel without incident. The next night we did get a table at the first place - it was not nearly as good as...

This review is based purely on the pub at the bird in bush, I did not stay here.

The bird in bush pub was what I thought was a great pub, the bartender was lovely and very friendly and welcoming and drinks were great. We got told by the person working there that food was served every day but Sunday.

We came in to eat on a weekday and was told they was not serving food. This happened twice and messed up our whole plans for the evening. Then after being told we wouldn’t be able to order, they began to take orders from people around us as they are residents. What is the difference between a resident and any other customer????

Other than this the pub is lovely and it would’ve been 5 stars if not for the food situation. Plus 1 rating for the dart board brings it...

We been here previously and had a wonderfully welcoming visit, so we thought we try again today for a spot of lunch (11th Aug) BEWARE - No food is served on a Monday, we found this out the hard way, along with the 3 other parties that turning up wanting lunch; I can see no mention of this online. We sat down in the cafe and ordered some coffees and cakes. Sadly the latte was pretty poor (absolutely scalding and lacking in coffee taste and the cakes (school cake & coffee & walnut) were dry and very disappointing, having had awesome cakes here before and even chatted to the lovely lady who made them, I can only assume these cakes were from the back end of last week as they were not the norm. I know we'll be back, but today...

Looking for a place to stay for a few nights while you explore Northumberland and Scotland? I could not recommend The Bird in Bush pub highly enough because it is 10/10. My husband and I stopped by here on a Sunday without a booking and to be honest I thought we'd be turned away as their restaurant was busy. Instead we were warmly greeted, quickly seated, quickly served, and then two plates of hot and delicious Sunday roasts arrived within 10-15 mins and we were left alone to enjoy everything in our own time. They even gave lots of goodies to our 3-yr-old and offered us a plate of mince pies they had on the bar for guests. It's a lovely pub. We'll definitely be back. Thank you to the amazing staff for making us feel so welcome.

Had the most amazing lunch at the Bird in Bush. We stopped off in our motorhome (plenty of free parking outside). We had the broccoli and stilton soup & beef and ale pie. Both were totally delicious, really fulfilling portion sizes and good value for money. Jackie the owner makes everyone feel so welcome. We left feeling like part of the family. Jackie definitely makes this place. What a lovely lass. Our two dogs were made to feel very welcome too. We will definitely be back.

A real treat of a pub. A warm genuine welcome, great beer some of it brewed on site. I was there for a function so not the normal menu but my rump of lamb and fondant potatoes with vegetables was amazing. Far surpassing "pub food". A place I can whole heartedly recommend if you're in the area. It's definitely worth a detour off the main road.
