This was my go to pub for playing pool and food as itâs got great food and they show the football here and itâs got lots of friendly customers and regulars. I go here 2-3 times a week to play pool i have my own cue and stuff. I am not one to write a bad review but i felt very upset after this interaction as i love this pub. Unfortunately there is a new bar lady who i havenât seen before who made me feel very little. Playing pool as a women i already feel judged sometimes so i get nervous walking into pubs but with black horse i am comfortable. As soon as i came in at 10:15 she told me i can only play one game with my friend. the pub shuts at 11 and i always have time for more than one game as i mostly come in around this time. there was 10 other people in the pub who she wasnât in a hurry to get rid off ( we ended up having 4 games because the pub shut at 11 and we played till then and till everyone else left). Once i said that was fine and we will play till 11 politely she then asked for my ID which i asked why as i wasnât purchasing an alcoholic drink and she said to be in the pub which i have never had before the 100 times i came here neither have any of my friends but i complied with her as i know she was doing her job. i then asked for a water as i was driving and i am diabetic so i canât intake sugar at certain times and my friend bought a coke. She rolls her eyes at me and says in a very rude manor âyou need to buy a drink drinkâ. This comment made me freeze up and the tone it was said made me feel very small because i genuinely just wanted a water and to play pool with my friend. After this i explained i was driving and my friend had to talk for me. She rolled her eyes again and was just blatantly rude the whole interaction i donât know if itâs because we are younger girls or because we came in at 10:15 i have no idea. I do come here regularly and never had a bad time but this genuinely made me not feel welcome here and my friend that was with me. I am telling my other friends about this as they go here...
Read moreThe food here is generally excellent and very good value, BUT and it's a big but, the service is lacking due to a very poor performing App. When you go here for a meal you are encouraged to use the App to order your food and drink. We have tried this twice now (at least a month apart) and had the same poor experience.
Basically, we ordered 2 meals and 2 pints and then sat there and waited and waited. We were in sight of the bar, they weren't what I would call busy and no one thought to ask why we were sat there with no food or drink in front of us.
Eventually, I went up to the bar to ask where our drinks were, only to be told by the lady serving that the App doesn't work! But that is not strictly true because it seemed very efficient at taking my money. I then mentioned that it wasn't working over a month ago either, and asked if anyone had bothered to report it to Greene King. I just got a shrug of the shoulders.
The fact that the staff know it's not working and there is no sign anywhere to say so, just shows an uncaring attitude.
It is possible for them to make items unavailable (as this evening you couldn't order chicken burger and it was 'greyed out') so if the problem is with ordering drinks, then the simplest solution would be to grey out all drinks, while Greene King sort the problem out. It shouldn't be necessary for me to leave a negative review to get things like this fixed. I will be emailing Greene King separately tomorrow to find out when they knew about this problem at the Black Horse and to request they withdraw the app until it...
Read moreUsed to be our local but for several reasons found elsewhere couple of years ago. Returned last night and decided to give it a go. New chef (to us) Tyler , excellent. And lovely manager served a portion of sharing nachos with chilli - brilliant service and value at £5.99!!! And still too much to share! The pub felt cleaner and had the old atmosphere back with so many people eating again. Even warm plates served in advance of food! Nice touches. Great value, first class friendly welcoming service. Even dogs made very welcome- huge bonus to us . Nothing too much trouble. So nice to be able to have a walkable local again , and will be a treat to eat and evening out without spending £60/70 ! We spent £28 food to share, and a 6 drinks between us , excellent value. Only reason for four not five stars was down to the toilets. Still big improvement but only so much managers can do with them. The company/owner need to rip out and start again. Otherwise , all great here again for a local, friendly , pub and service...
