We arrived, having not been there for around 20 years or more. The first thing that we were pleased with was that they're dog friendly - VERY dog friendly. We were sat inside with our pack of 4 dogs, and they were brought water bowls as we were given drinks, and then they were brought treats (we were ask beforehand if this was OK - Top marks for thinking of that too) as we were brought our main meals. For the three of us, the bill was around £70, which for starters, mains, & drinks was pretty good; but it got better. Our lad spotted he had an offer from his bank to knock 25% off the bill! Even though we were paying, they were happy to accept and this meant that we were able to give an even better tip! Bonus!!! (Quick edit - I forgot to mention the brilliant staff by name!) We were served by Alex, and the dogs were mainly looked after by Anish. Both were highly professional, knowledgeable, and personable - they deserve to be mentioned, because they made such a difference to our visit. There was another thing in store for me; the toilet. Sounds dumb, but I have to use the disabled loo, and this is so often a dinghy affair tucked away somewhere. Not here. You needed a RADAR Key to get in, and then I was greeted by the BEST disabled toilet that I have ever been in. I'm still on two feet, but had I been on my mobility scooter, there was ample room inside for me to have manoeuvred around and got into the necessary position to swap seats, as it were. Pull down support bars that actually worked, taps that didn't just dribble, and one of those wonderful jet-engine based hand driers (actually blew my wedding ring off, but that was my fault). A brilliant place to eat, and if you give the staff your registration number, you don't even need to pay for parking. Without doubt, the next time we're in the area, we'll be back in to enjoy the place.

First and last visit to The Boathouse after it's refurb Looks decent enough inside but service was painfully slow even with very few people there (plenty of parking at least!) We had the sharing board to start which was lovely but the only good thing about the evening After waiting an incredibly long time for our mains to arrive , and the waitress only realising she hadn't cleared the starter to make room when she came, we were immediately amazed at the shriveled state of the carrots. As we began to eat the rest of the meal (steak and ale pies) we found little meat and my wife was unable to eat some of what was there are it was poor quality, squishy and fatty. The pastry was rubbery on the sides of the pie as well. The broccoli was dry and the peas were luke warm, maybe the last things to be added to a plate that had sat under a heat lamp for ages, the only thing I can imagine would have caused the state of the carrots. After eating all we could we waited, expecting someone to come and ask how it has been and clear away. We waited a long time Eventually a chap did come and we said how disappointing the mains had been . He offered a free dessert but we said we had been there almost 2 hours and really had to go. Expecting the bill to arrive quickly we waited again. Eventually after 15 mins we gave up and went to the bar to pay. One of the pie mains had been taken off the bill at least and we had some Tesco vouchers to reduce it further but it was still one of the worst meals we have had and we won't be returning

I had great hopes when we booked and when we drove up it looked great. We said we had a booking and were given a table. We went and got some drinks and picked what we wanted and went to the bar. To be then told sorry no steaks. Which was odd as it was early Saturday evening. I then tried to order the lamb shank but the wasn't in stock either. So I asked what was in stock. I wondered why they didn't tell us when we came in. I then went to order a drink the guy behind said he wouldn't be a minute. But went off to deliver some drinks and started to collect glasses on the way back. The guy wearing a black shirt behind the bar just ignored me he was busy talking to his friends. He eventually finished with his friends and served the guy behind me. At this stage I just went back to my seat. Dinner was served and the food was great. We finished dinner and my wife wanted a hot drink with trifle but when I tried to order it guess what it wasn't available. So we just finished our food and left. Disappointing as the boathouse looked fantastic just a word of advice keep your customers happy.

Firstly this review in no way a criticism of the young lady who served us . She was very attentive and apologetic My wife and I arrived at the newly refurbished Boathouse and , as we usually do , had already decided on what we would have. However, once we got the ‘Specials’ menu we saw the Toad in the Hole ‘ Cumberland sausages in a Traditonal yorkshire pudding with Bubble and Squeak mash and Red wine gravy ‘ we both decided on that . Once it arrived we were somewhat shocked at how small the skillet pan the yorkshire pudding came in . However, the real issue was not only was the Yorkshire undercooked it was welded to the pan and had barely risen ! There was pratically nothing to eat . The 3 sausages were good as was the gravy but the fist sized bubble and squeak wasn’t bubble and squeak as I know it- just mash with leek and cabbage ( very small amount ) in it. We did complain but were offered free drinks which we didnt want. The cost of this meal was £17.49 each . Not good at all and we wont return . We have had issues before at the Boathouse with very slow service ( once waiting an hour + for desert ) but the food has always been good. Unfortunately, not anymore

**So i was contacted by the owner after posting my review asking me to email him so ‘he could better understand what went wrong’ This I did and had an email back apologising and offering us a ‘Meal on the house’ . Which I thought was a generous offer and we gladly accepted. I emailed back with a suitable date and waited and waited and waited . Nothing - so i emailed again and again no reply. So i emailed again and still nothing . I honestly do not know what to say . I dont want a free meal now only a refund of my £35...
