What can I say that a 1 star doesn't say? Well let's put it this way I would not go back to this place or recommend it to anyone.
We booked a family meal for 13 people, first of all we booked online and got a response confirming the reservation, we then called to add 3 people because they wanted to join us and they had no clue apparently about the booking, so first piece of advise if you book after reading this, confirm it over the phone that it's booked!!
We turned up tonight all looking forward to a good meal and a good time, we got sat at our table and started looking at the menu which is typical pub grub, Steak's, Burgers, Fish & Chip's etc and the prices are decent.
We all decided what we wanted, and we had split the group of us in to 3 group's to order, so the first group ordered and was told there was a 45 minute wait for food, now we understand there will be a wait you cannot expect to turn up and eat within minutes, it's not McDonald's or somewhere like that.
The 2nd group ordered and was told a 50 minute wait again, we were fine with that, and the 3rd group ordered at the same time. They were told the same.
45 minutes go by and nothing, no food, no "Sorry it's going to be abit longer" or anything, after 1 hour the 1st group's food arrived.
After 1 hour & 30 minutes part of the 2nd group's food turned up, and then after 2 hours the 3rd group's food turned up, this was after complaining and the money spent on food being refunded.
The wait times are ridiculous especially considering there was no apologies from the staff at any point until the manager who apparently, has been brought in from another restaurant within the same chain in another town to bring the place up to scratch, came over to apologise and refund the money for the food.
The food was "ok" I wouldn't say it was good or bad but it certainly did not make up for the wait time.
The portion sizes were small, so small that the "Adult" meal's looked like a "Child's" meal, now I am a big guy but even the young kid's asked if they could have some of there parent's food when it came out because they were still hungry!
The place looked run down, like the staff just didn't care about the place in the slightest, I went to the Gent's Toilet's and decided to not use them because they were in such a state, from the toilet seats hanging off, to light's not working, tap's not working etc.
The outside wasn't clean, there was a glass on a table that looked like it had been there all week, it was stuck to the table.
Honestly I feel sorry for waiter's and waitresses in there because they must get some comments made to them, about the wait times etc.
I would not recommend anyone go if you want food, and if you stay in the hotel that is next door, I would suggest going about a mile down London Road to another restaurant, or if you live in Warrington then go to The Swan or The Springbrook, they are slightly more expensive but they look more looked after, the staff are fine and the food is not only really nice but you don't wait so long either.
I will not be going back to this place...
Read moreAfter visiting The Cat and Lion on several occasions for breakfast, we were really looking forward to a family meal for my birthday. Unfortunately, it was a total disappointment.
When we ordered our food, we made it clear that we were sat together but under 3 separate payment methods. Nonetheless, the food arrived separately. The first meal came and was eaten before the second lot of meals came. Everything else arrived, other than my husbands pizza which we were told was almost ready.
After waiting and almost everyone else finishing their meals, we approached the Manager to ask where the pizza was. We explained that we were out for a family meal and hoping to all eat together. We were met with a total lack of consideration and simply told ‘yeah it’s in the oven now’.
Shortly after, a young lady came over to our table and told us she had dropped the pizza on the floor meaning my husband now had no meal. Two minutes later, a gentleman bought out the pizza he had ordered. We explained that we were told that the pizza had been dropped on the floor and didn’t want it.
I approached the Manager again to explain that someone had just tried to serve us a pizza that had clearly been dropped on the floor. Again the Manager showed no interest whatsoever, fabricating a story about the pizza that was bought out being someone else’s that they had given to my husband so that he had a meal. When we asked for the pizza we were told ‘you refused it is it’s in the bin now’.
Mistakes happen, and clearly there had been a mistake with the pizza being dropped and then somehow going out to serving, but the way the Manager dealt with the situation was disgusting. Sending younger staff members over to explain to us what had happened and not once offering an apology which was unacceptable.
Really really disappointed...

Bad experience due to the rude pub landlady serving breakfast when I spent 2 nights at the Cat and Lion this week. I was testing out local accommodation due to starting a contract in the area for a few years. I’d already tried The Park Royal round the corner, but fancied more of a pub environment, especially as I’m keen on the Brewery that runs the pub and hotel (Holts). Unfortunately, the landlady was rude during breakfast on the first morning. I was the only person in the bar area, yet the landlady, who was the only person taking orders, ignored me for five minutes while I tried to get her attention. She just kept walking past and looking rather annoyed. I eventually caught her attention and asked if I could order. She told me to order at the bar in an irritated manner. She then abruptly told me ‘It’s a Pub !’ when I pointed out that she might have told me how to order as she could see I was sat waiting and trying to get her attention. I went elsewhere for breakfast on the second morning.
The landlady made it quite clear from her rude attitude that she didn’t value the hotel guests.
I won’t use the hotel or pub again due the rude landlady. It’s a shame as there’s a significant amount of hotel business that’s been lost due to quite a few of us staying in the area over the next few years. Instead, to get a more professional and friendly atmosphere towards guests, I’ll stick with The Park Royal and walk over to ‘The Fox at Stretton’ for my choice of pub.
To be fair, there was lots of parking, the rooms were ok, and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s such a shame about the landlady (Amy?) ruining it for the rest of the team with her rude and...
