The spa itself was amazing. It was definitely the relaxing birthday treat I needed. The pool was a decent size so you could enjoy a nice swim. The sauna and steam room were a fairly decent size. However the jacuzzi did not fit more than 3 people at a time. We had a fourth person join us in the jacuzzi and at this point we were basically sitting on top of each other. Not the best experience.
In terms of the hotel itself, the decor was old, and as a former carer, it felt as if I had walked into an old folks home. ( I remember the smell of nursing homes very well). So it was not aestheyically pleasing. When walking in certain hallways, there was an overwhelming smell of urine. Which as you can imagine was not a welcome smell.
When arriving at the hotel we quickly checked in, however we were given no information on where the restaurant was for our evening meal, and what time breakfast was in the morning. Which In my experience are the key points to let a new guest know.
Once we were given the card keys for our room, we had to ask which way to our rooms, as there were no clear signs and the information was not volunteered.
Next we get to our room, which was nice. It was clean so we couldn't complain at that and it was also spacious. We had booked a triple room as there were 3 of us. It had 1 double bed and one small. However, we all had to lie in one bed to watch a movie before sleeping due to the positing of the television. (Partially Hidden behind a wall).
Next, as I mentioned there were 3 of us. But only enough towels and robes for 2 people. Which was indeed annoying as we needed to head to the spa and we didn't want to be walking down in our swimwear. But as I mentioned before the spa was a wonderful experience, and the staff were lovely, welcoming and very kind. The treatment rooms were clean and spacious. However we did notice that the treatments ended much sooner than they should have. We were told that we would have 60 minute treatments but we all finished at least 10 minutes before that mark. Which was disappointing.
Back to our room situation, one of our friends had come down with a stomach bug, and there was only 1 roll of toilet paper between the 3 of us. So it is safe to say we quickly ran out and had to ring down for more.
We waited an hour and we had received nothing and then when my friend could no longer hold it in, we had to ring down once more before we received anything. However they did apologise for the inconvenience. Oh before I forget, the toilet didn't exactly flush great. So you had a girl a stomach bug, a girl on her period and a girl with a very small bladder. So it's safe to say that wasn't enjoyable.
So shall we talk about the restaurant? It was disappointing. Highly disappointing. The menu was small and didn't offer many varieties. The food didn't taste great. My starter was a salmon and crab ravioli and I may aswell have not bothered. It was covered in this foam that tasted like dish soap. The portions were too small. My main was a sea bream and it was dry and the portion too small. My friend had the chicken and told me it was too dry and her potato was not fully cooked. And my other friend ended up ordering 2 portions of fries because of the lack of options. Even the fries were undercooked and not edible. And we seemed to be waiting a long time for a mediocre meal. The only thing I enjoyed was the dessert and even that the portion was too small. So at this point I was glad we had brought snacks to sustain us on our trip.
The breakfast was fairly decent and we didn't have any issues though the coffee was definitely terrible. It's safe to say we were glad to be going home and will probably never use another qhotels facility...
Read moreMe and my partner stayed here for 2 nights, we had breakfast and dinner included as well as two treatments. We had dinner the first night i was nice and the staff were lovely. Breakfast was a buffet style, it ended at half 9 on week days which i feel could be pushed towards more 10 oclock. The breakfast was average, the sausage seemed a little pink in colour but were didn’t make a fuss we just chose not to eat them, they had fresh pastry and other things available which were nice. The rooms are standard ,no mini bar in the standard rooms but i know you can upgrade and have that included we chose not to. The rooms could do with a referb, the furniture is outdated and carpet is too but the bathrooms are nice and for the time your in the room it’s not worth a moan on our part. The prices for drinks were quite expensive we paid £15 for one double bacardi and coke! But there is a pub a 2 minute walk away which have things on so we went there. We didn’t take cash as we read it was card only but there is a pool table which is coins, unfortunately we couldn’t play as no cash and they didn’t do cash back. We have two treatments and were originally meant to have them on our second day but got a call to say we couldn’t as someone was off sick ,we rearranged for the day after and got there and said we weren’t booked in for the first treatment at the new time arranged on the phone so we had them both together at a later time. This wasn’t a problem for us but could be for some people, we just used the pool and other facilities. The changing rooms are really good, big and have hair dryers and straighteners available which i found very useful. The relaxation room was nice but could do with some relaxing music on as it was just silence. We stayed in a room which was literally next to the spa so we could hear the door from outside opening and closing and wasn’t much privacy if you wanted the nets and curtains open as there were people walking in and out early till late. For us it wasn’t anything to moan about again as we weren’t in the room much. The bed was comfy there was a ceiling fan that did nothing at all really but again i think you can upgrade to rooms with A/C. All round the staff were lovely and were very friendly and welcoming, also the spa staff were amazing and we managed to get our planned treatments. They do take a £50 per night payment at check in incase you use the room service but that goes straight back onto your card at check out so just bare that in mind as we weren’t aware before arrival. We had a lovely time and would go again, the place is in a good location and a short drive to different food places/pubs if you don’t want to stay...
Read moreWe've stayed in Q Hotels all over the country and are Q Club members. This however, is turning out to be a disappointing stay. Sandwiches yesterday in the bar, were not very good at all. The egg mayonnaise was a rocket sandwich with a very small amount of egg mayonnaise and the bread was a little stale. The cheese and ham toasty had the thinnest smallest piece of ham and was so overcooked the cheese was hard and hardly any of it, as well as the bread. So with 2 drinks, a tea and 1 beer, that was £25, don't mind paying it, if the quality is good but it was not. Ordered breakfast for our room this morning, 09:30 to 10:00. No sign of it at 09:55, so thought we would ring reception. There is nothing in the room, to give any indication of a telephone directory, so rang the only number of room service, which I assumed would be appropriate. Rang it 3 times and no response at all. Finally our breakfast arrived, late. We had ordered a continental breakfast, juice, toast, pastries, granola, Greek yoghurt butter and conserves, along with tea and coffee. I have never seen such a tiny amount of juice in my life, then to be told, we have no yoghurt and we have run out of pastries. The tea and coffee were cold, the toast had hardly seen a toaster and looked like stale bread, no butter, we got flora. We eat natural, not chemicals, so the flora was attempted but yuk. Can't eat the granola as no yoghurt. Now bearing in mind we did not order a cooked breakfast, the one thing we had an abundance of, was ketchup, brown sauce, mayonnaise and vinegar, unbelievable. Knife and fork for the cooked breakfast, which we did not have but no teaspoons for the drinks. So to be fair to the receptionist, we explained our plight, when going out and we have been refunded the breakfast and we've decided to be refunded for our breakfast tomorrow as well, as we do not want the same issue. We were to stay in this evening and eat in the hotel restaurant along with 2 of our close friends, for my birthday but we are now told that the restaurant isn't open and we will have to eat in the bar. So we've cancelled our dinner for 4 and now going to a local restaurant as we have no confidence at all that the food will be up to scratch and we don't want to eat in a bar. So now we have additional cost for a taxi. The room is fine but having just got back from a trip out, for some reason we only have 1 bath towel between 2 of us. This is really disappointing, especially as this is my 65th birthday celebration and now somewhat spoiled. Not had these issues at any of the...
