I was quite excited to be visiting Chadwick's Inn yesterday after reading the reviews. We a party of 4 ladies were here for a birthday lunch for my mum. We arrived at approximately 12.30 on Wednesday 6th February. There were I believe 3 other customers at our time of arrival, Chadwick's though very attractively decorated was quite cold and remained so throughout our visit. The very amenable and pleasant barman seated us in the restaurant area next to two of the other customers. I agree with another reviewer that the tables are a little too close together. The barman gave us our menues and explained to us that the belly pork was not available on the specials menu. When I looked at the Specials menu this actually left just one main choice a hake fish dish. The Soecials menu actually only gives 2 starter choices, 2 mains and 2 desserts! I asked the barman if an alternative could be given from the main menu, he said that he would ask the chef, the answer was no, I quietly made my disappointment known to the barman as this was a cancellation and not a sell out on the pre printed Specials menu and though I was the spokesperson we all felt that there should have been an alternative offered. I perused the main menu and again asked the poor barman if the chef would allow the fish and chips on the main menu at £12, the cheapest main course to be coupled with the goats cheese starter which was one of the specials, the chef agreed to this. We placed our orders which were 2 goats cheese starters, 1 hake, 2 fish and chips and 1 steak main. We then waited and waited! Eventually at 13.25 we were served the starters which though delicious and well presented, consisted of 4 small rosettes of piped goats cheese mouuse with s tiny salad which would have benefitted from a slice of crusty bread or a cracker or 2, bearing in mind that this is priced at £8 on the main menu. We again waited a very long time to be served our main courses. When we asked the barman he again went to the chef and we were told that they were on the way, eventually arriving another 10 minutes later. My mum said her steak meal was excellent, my sister received a tiny portion of hake on a small bed of vegetables with no potatoes or substantial vegetable or salad of any description which she said was ok, my friend and I's fish and chips were huge portions and all good except for a too thick and partly undercooked batter! By this point we felt that there was no point in making any more complaints as our others hadn't been received well by the chef and we certainly didn't have enough time to have our meal recooked judging by the time already taken in an almost empty restaurant for 4 relatively simple main courses to be served. Only a handful of further customers had arrived in our 2 hours their. Our compliments to a very pleasant bar/waiting staff, but very sad to say that we will not be returning any time...

This would honestly be a 5 star review if it weren't for some of the service that left our visit down.

Myself and my partner decided to go out for Sunday lunch last minute today, we rang ahead and booked a last minute table which was brilliant and the man on the phone was very friendly. Due to the rushed nature unfortunately we did not have the time to get as dressed up as we would've liked for such a place and although the reception from what I presume was the manager was great unfortunately the looks from the two female servers in particular was less than complimentary. At no point during our meal did one member of staff show any form of emotion and seemed almost fed up to be there. However, again the manager was exemplary and set a great example.

The food itself is lovely, not too big of portions, well presented but not overly fussy and tasted brilliant. However after the first 2 courses myself and my partner were left sitting for 20 minutes before we were then seen for to take desserts orders / bill. By which point the table behind us had had starters cleared away, been given their mains and then had those cleared, however I presume they were regulars as the staff were bothering to make conversation with them. I was going to order dessert but by this point I'd gotten ever so slightly fed up and asked for the bill. The girl who gave us our bill then left to 'get the card machine' and all 4 of the servers stood at the kitchen door took so long the manager stepped in and eventually took our payment. Its such a shame that the floor staff seem to have let down our experience as the food...

Food was really nice but the portion sizes were rather small for the price. Especially the desserts. Hate to have a whinge but the staff made me feel uncomfortable today which is why I’ve given two stars. There was no friendly interactions, we only got asked if we wanted drinks once (at the beginning before we were even seated ) and we were never asked again if we wanted more for the entire service so glass was sat empty the entire meal. The service was incredibly slow it took nearly 3 hours for 3 courses. I could have asked for more drinks as the servers passed but I feel like that’s a basic service skill that was missed. I did notice the staff were very attentive to other tables though, they were offered refills, water for the table and got all the service essentials our table was lacking so that just added to my discomfort. Not sure why we were treat differently but they couldn’t make it more obvious that they couldn’t be ars*d with us. To be honest I wanted to leave half way through. No attempt at friendly small talk was made either. They were a miserable bunch to be honest. I left them a tip anyway cos it’s nearly Christmas but if I could have been bothered I would have complained. I know it’s sad times right now guys and it’s hard in the service industry but come on this is basic customer service. You could at least try to hide the fact you didn’t...

Took my best friend for a birthday treat. The service was exceptional maybe a little slow at points but nothing to complain about. After discussing starters with our waiter we decided to have a couple of delicious cocktails in the sun before coming inside for food (decision made due to a slightly over friendly wasp outside). The starters were delicious, the capers really made the prawn starter. The muscles starter were lovely and creamy. I had the lamb main and my friend the pork, both were very tender and succulent, the pork crackling was cooked to perfection. This all came with roast new potatoes and green veg. The desserts were beautiful. A white chocolate and strawberry 🍓 cheesecake like dessert. And a crème brulé with raspberries and all butter shortcake biscuits. With cocktails each to start, two (med-small) glasses of wine each then 1 cocktail and a ginger beer came to about £161 which considering the quality of the food isn't bad. Do recommend and I would definitely go back.

One of the best food I've had in the UK for its price! Was fortunate enough to get a table during their teeside restaurant week's special (3 courses for 20). Terrine was amazing, reminds me of an asian dish that I grew up eating. It was just the good amount of salt, with a blend of spices 💯 Went for the pork main and it was savoury, not too salty, and the gravy had a depth of flavour that is 💯. Sticky toffee pudding was spot on. Great ambience, great food. What more can I ask for. Revisited after 7 months and did not disappoint! Fried baby squid was spot on! Flavourful aioli, crispy squid, with a really interesting sesame and bean sprout salad! Mussels were juicy, sauce was absolutely amazing! Dessert was chocolate ganache with banana sorbet. It was a delicate balance between rich velvety chocolate and the refreshing, not too sweet banana sorbet. 10/10!

Really lovely staff and pretty good service but the sole was really disappointing (especially given the additional supplement required). Very bland, no taste at all even though the fish was swimming in a cream based sauce. Vegetables were excellent and my partner said his roast beef was excellent although his Yorkshire pudding was slightly on the burnt side. Sticky toffee desert was excellent, dessert billed as crumble with custard didn’t actually have custard (it was more whipped cream) and the dessert itself tasted more like frozen key lime pie. We were a small table of 3 but saw lots of other tables served before us. Have been a few times in the past and food was much better, with more vegetarian options. Not sure we’d come again.
