EPIC... Failure. Not impressed.!!! My partners Gammon and pineapple meal. Not so sure what he was meant to do with this slab of pineapple. Mine a burger went back has it was black and made a cracking noise when I cut it with my knife. They offered to re-cook it, however, 25 minutes later I still hadn't been served a replacement. My partner had finished his meal. Considering it really wasn't busy... So not a good first impression. On a positive note, they didn't charge us and the waitresses were lovely.

Really enjoyed eating here last night. Wet and miserable outside, log fire and friendly staff inside. Food was well prepared, fresh and tasty. Comfortably busy. Returned for Sunday lunch on Father's Day with family. Roast pork lunch was excellent, as was the service. Visited July 24 lunchtime to try new menu. Ribeye steak ciabatta was tasty and plenty big enough. Enjoyed it.

Steak Sub Roll The meal was below par, mostly due to the cheap dense seemingly frozen stone cold roll in which the minuscule steak was served. The fries were hot and the waitress was lovely. The place has been closed for months for a refurb, it’s a lovely pub, it didn’t look too different to me and all the staff are new so hopefully things on the plate will improve.

I've had a few meals here over the past year, but today's meal was poor on so many fronts that I left feeling angry and wishing I had sent my food back.

First, some positives; the welcome was friendly and the staff were nice, even if the service was really really slow - around an hour for the main to come.

My food really was appalling. The starter was Halloumi Popcorn and for around £7 I got six or seven 1cm cubes of Halloumi, deep fried, with a small amount of honey on the side. It was paltry and stingy, and frankly how anyone could think that serving such a pitiful, lazy dish for £7 is beyond me. The fact that mine was made up of several bits that were just hardened batter with no actual halloumi in it made it worse. I wish I had sent it back, but I didn't want to cause a scene at such a happy occasion.

My main was the £17.25 Cheese, Onion and Potato pie, which seemed like it had perhaps been left standing for some time before it had come out. The pie needed longer in the oven, the chips seemed like bog standard oven chips and the 'garlic buttered greens' amounted to about 4 stone-cold half-sized green beans covered in a wet piece of sautéed spinach. It was served with a lukewarm cheese sauce that had started to develop a skin. It was obvious that it had been sat for a while before serving.

Perhaps I would be more inclined to forgive some of this if the prices weren't so over-inflated, but alas, with a soft drink and the service charge, my share of the bill was £35, which for what I had was about as welcome as a punch in the face.

I would urge you not to eat here, or to have no hesitation in sending your food back if you are served anything similar to what I have described - I...

The food was outstanding, this is the second time we have had a meal at this pub. The John Holt's beer battered cod was beautiful. The batter was lovely and crispy (as requested), the fish was delicious, and fresh, my knife melted through the cod. Chips were nice and crispy without being drenched in fat, mushy peas just as I like them, being from the Black Country. The vinegar scarps were interesting, just enough batter ends to add to my chips. Tartar source was Delicious, so much that I tried to ask the waitress for another portion, but it was very difficult to get the attention of anyone. My friend had the Ale Pie, which she enjoyed, the suet pastry was a little overwhelming, the filling was lovely. It would have been nice to know before ordering that it was a suit pudding not pastry. The only disappointment we had was we ordered bread with our main being from the (black country bread is part of our diet!) The waitress brought our bread/butter at the end of our meal, we explained that we had nearly finished our meal, therefore we didn't want the bread. The waitress to her credit apologised and we left it at that. The food/settings overall is excellent, just a little more input from the waitress to tell us if things are running a little late, and what we ordered (extras) are delivered with the main meal. Very busy night, but expected 2 slices of bread and butter to be presented to us within minutes, rather than at the end of our meal, need to improve contact with the customers, no problem waiting 10 minutes for some service, but having to go to the bar to physically ask for what we wanted, not impressive. Saying that, love the food, the beer, we...

The pub was very welcoming and the first waitress was good, we ordered food for four people and asked for a lightly battered fish for my wife which the waitress said that it would be ok. When the order came the fish that I asked for my wife was heaverly battered and when we said to the second waitress that we had asked for a lightly battered fish she said that there was no note of us asking for a lightly battered fish and did not offer an apology for the mistake or offer to replace. We all started our meals and then when I started to eat my vegetables they were cold so I left them, when the second waitress came and asked was the food ok I told her my vegetables were cold this time She offered to take them back to reheat or bring replacement, I declined as waiting for my meal would make the rest of my food go cold and our friends we were with meals go cold waiting for my meal to return as we had gone out for a meal together not to eat at different times. If I had gone there on a ñormal day I would not of paid the full price for the two meals as it was a buy one get one free offer this is probably why we were not offered a...
