Cousin Jack's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in England

We called here on Sunday 17th August 2025. Bought 1 large chips, 1 medium fish and a tub of curry. Chips looked like a pile of scratching and looked like they were pre cooked and then reheated? The fish honestly it wasn’t much bigger than a fish finger and we wondered if they gave us a small by mistake? (I’m sorry I dint photograph it now or didn’t open the box until we got home otherwise I would have asked for my money back). The curry was ok but nothing to write home about. Bloke doing the cooking never smiled at anybody and made it look like he didn’t want to be there. No atmosphere or friendly customer chat at all. So it’s not for us, slightly on the dear side but only chippy in the area, so they have the monopoly. I would give it 2 out of 10 but try it yourself. Obviously won’t be going back. We ate what we could salvage out of the chips and binned the rest. We called here in April 2025 and it was delicious and well worth the price, but we don’t know what has changed since then??? Oh and it was very messy where the food is cooked, fat all over the fryer and full of the bits they were selling as chips. The chippy near us is always cleaning and wiping down as he goes as he has protein his businesses. Might be a lesson for this...

Edited and updated....from the best chippy I've had to quite possibly the worst these days, can't keep the glowing review anymore it's not fair on you guys. My food the last 6 months or so : expecially tonight (27th june) uncooked soggy white chips with definitely no batter on them like used to be, fish burnt yet slimy underneath an is very clearly frozen, just mush in your mouth...don't bother asking for a jumbo sausage coz they can't he bothered an will fob you off with 2 small, they are OK but no batter hardly it just dusts off...Peas are still nice an curry is lovely still. But I'm done now, I given up on both branches of the cousin jacks (camborne & lillogan. Sorry guys Tbf if the dad is on your getting a decent meal...he still has the passion an effort. The staff are always nice tho an up...

I'm sorry to say this but this was the second time in 3 months that we have tried fish and chips here and were disappointed both times. I wanted to give it a second chance but we had similar issues.

The first time, the chips were very dry and tough, they tasted like they were old/refried. The batter was soggy but the fish was actually lovely, so that was a positive.

This time, the fish was dry and hard, it was actually too tough to even chew at the end. Again it felt like the fish was old or refried and I couldn't finish it. It wasn't pleasant but at least the chips were fresher this time.

I understand many people enjoy these fish and chips but unfortunately in these instances they weren't...
