A really unfortunate experience. We were hoping for roast dinners, which we were told weren’t possible which is understandable as our table was booked for 8:30pm by then I assume they were low on roast. However the waitress had said it was just the potatoes and we could order the roast and substitute with chips etc. I ordered what had been described to me as a lamb roast (it was beef when it arrived at the table and they don’t actually serve lamb on the menu) and my partner ordered chicken. I had explicitly told the waitress three times while ordering we do not eat pork and would it be possible to just omit the pork trimmings from the plate. She said yes, and asked again if we had any dietary requirements to which I answered, a fourth time, we don’t eat pork (for religious reasons.) When the food came, both plates did include pork (the beef one is not even described as including pork on the menu at all) and we were not offered to have our plates taken back to the kitchen to remove the pork and told to just ‘scrape it off to the side’. I was extremely embarrassed and upset by this. We visit restaurants which serve pork and know the risk we take and have never had an issue before , however I would have at least expected for the meals to be taken back to the kitchen and replated on fresh ones. I doubt a person with a vegan or nut allergy requirement would have been asked to scrape off the inedible parts of their meal and even more upset that it was a rather simple request. We ate a carrot each, paid our bill, alerted the manager and left being too upset to await an appropriate response from their team. Overall, an...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Cromwell Cottage in Northampton, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm smiles from the friendly staff, who despite being busy, provided attentive service throughout the evening.
The meal itself was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's attention to detail. The flavours were simply out of this world, and it was evident that each dish was cooked to perfection. I had the pleasure of trying the Pork Belly, and it was an absolute delight - tender, flavourful, and a true culinary masterpiece. I cannot recommend it enough.
And let's talk about the dessert - the chocolate bomb pudding was a showstopper! It arrived at the table with an air of excitement, and as soon as it was presented, it did not disappoint. The explosion of flavours and textures was a pure delight, leaving me in awe of the chef's creativity.
What's even more impressive is that the quality of the meal was matched by the reasonable prices. Cromwell Cottage offers excellent value for money, making it an ideal spot for those seeking an exceptional dining experience without breaking the bank.
Overall, my visit to Cromwell Cottage was an absolute pleasure. The ambiance, the service, and most importantly, the food, all combined to create a memorable evening. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking for a truly remarkable dining experience. I am already looking forward to...
Read moreI went here with family for a late December get-together. We booked for 14:15 to avoid the lunch rush and fit in with our little one's nap.
The restaurant itself was warm and cozy, with good service overall. My wife and I were the last to arrive and we weren't asked for our drinks order before food, even if we kind of forgot ourselves.
The vegan options are limited, with very few starters to choose from, three mains, and no desserts! My wife and I both went for the 'nourish bowl'. Ironically, you can only choose from extra meat toppings for the most typically vegan main!
Both of our bowls were disappointing - poor actually. My red cabbage was left in large tough pieces not suitable for a salad. Both of our cauliflower bits were too large, undercooked, with too much inedible stalk. My wife's avocado was brown and clearly off; this should never have been served to us. When you have so few vegan options on the menu, they simply have to be executed right to justify the limited choice.
When we raised these issues to staff, they listened attentively and agreed to take one of them off the bill. Well handled and a credit to the restaurant!
Overall, the restaurant's food really let down the experience and we would not return here barring a revamp of the vegan options. An obvious improvement would be to offer some fried tofu for the nourish bowl and make the chips vegan friendly at...
