What a wonderful spot and certainly somewhere I’ll be returning to repeatedly. For some reason I’d imagined there being more activities, especially for children, but instead you’re left to your own devices with walks and cycle tracks through the forest and canal area. Not that this is anything to complain about though - it’s all signposted well, the tracks are in great condition and there’s lots of space for everyone. The main camp itself is a fantastic retreat though, with seating / tables on the lawn as well as veranda overlooking the canal. There’s a sizeable food and drink menu which one can order from through an app as well as from the plentiful staff roaming around. The waiting staff are certainly on the inexperienced side, however food is brought in good time and portion size can’t be complained about with the prices. The burger was flavoursome and while somewhat basic in presentation was completely satisfying - you come here for the location and relaxing setting primarily. Drinks were perfectly cold upon serving, all the tables were cleans and there’s plenty of toilets on site. This is a wonderful spot in Bedford and even if you’re not in the area for cycling or a long walk, it’s worth the trip on a nice day.

Its funny that reading back over these reviews it is very obvious that the management /owner writes a review to attempt to counteract a genuine customers 'dissatisfied' review and therefore the overall rating of this establishment has clearly been tampered with and should not read 3.7 stars at all. The dead give away is giving the directions and emphasising the 'no fast food' gimmick.

It is quite amusing that the establishment seems to pride itself on NOT serving fast food . They have taken the other extreme. The service is so slow that people leave before receiving their food . This is NOT good service. Everyone understands that there is a wait for restaurant food, but taking a ridiclous amount of time to serve and bring out food is not doing their business any favours at all. Also, they do serve' fast food' such as chips . Their understanding of the concept of fast food has been misinterpreted and lost and is damaging their business yet there is a dogged approach as can be seen from the fake reviews...they are hammering home the no fast food .....is basil Fawlty running the joint ? hahah

On the day I went to visit, I had read the reviews and thought it best to take a picnic as poor service at a restaurant can ruin a day, especially as there is no where else to eat for miles . However, my plan was not very well thought out as I needed to get drinks when we arrived.

We queued for fifteen minutes to get a take away tea. Possibly the longest I have ever had to wait for service in any place I have ever visited. There was one member of staff behind the counter serving. The queue reached across the whole building. One good thing was we were friends with half of them by the time we left ! . When we got to the service hatch I laughed with my partner as we read the sign' we do not serve fast food here, if you want fast food you should go somewhere else. This was hilarious.

They have taken the concept of 'fast food' and made out that this is a better dining experience because you do not get fast food. They are clearly missing the point here....and their 'clever' marketing trick is actually turning people away and getting peoples backs up.

Be warned , if you go into this restaurant, expect no member of management to understand that there is an appropriate waiting time for service to ensure that the customer has a good experience. I only went in for a cup of tea in a cardboard cup and came out angry !!! You will wait and wait and wait at this joint. Totally ridiculous , The shame of it is, I would visit all the time if the service was good as the location is lovely and the views are stunning....

Nice stop off on the Sandy to Bedford Cycle route 51. The route follows the track of the old Cambridge to Bedford railway line and can be walked, cycled, driven to or even accessible by boat, its also within walking distance of Willington lock. They have some limited racks to lock up bicycles. Danish camp is based in Willington and has car parking facilities.

This place is always busy in sunny weather and they have a little cafe, indoor/outdoor areas. It is right on the River Ouse and a good place to socialise. You may need to wait a while for your food on busy days. We waited 30 minutes, so that was fine as we chatted and enjoyed our drinks in the sun.

They have a little ice cream shop and a bouncy castle for kids. In my opinion it is one of the rare places that you can come with children or without and still relax (unless you dislike children/need zen like silence)!

My wife and I visited recently. Food and drink not cheap, but not extortionate either. I had a burgers, chips and coleslaw for £11, my wife ham egg and chips for £10. My burger was lovely, although my wife's ham was plasticky and bread was dry ... so not worth £10.

Other than that, this was a great place to visit, especially when the weather...
