Normally a great reputation for food and service.

What on earth has happened then as it's gone right down hill.

Ordered my meal which was on the menu as TREO OF MEATS. was told there was no lamb so would be swapped for another of the other meats on the plate.

When the food arrived mine was a carvery with slices of meat so i said it was wrong.

My fiance's meal and her mum's came out with chicken which was tiny, dry and with potatoes really tough so i went to the bar to make a complaint.

The barman who came over who was called James had a right attitude and spoke to my fiance like crap and said he spoke to the chef and they had no complaints and the size was fine, if we wanted a different meal we will be charged for it.

He had such a poor attitude and manner i went to speak to the manager as i was not being spoken too in that way.

We explained to the manager the issues with the meal that we paid ÂŁ40 for as a late mothers day treat and how we were unhappy and were initially told that the portion sizes are set and they had no complaints so far so it was just our opinion.

By the time my food arrived that i actually ordered which was an hour after we sat down i was in no mood to eat with an upset fiance with horrible food bad paying for this horrible experience.

After a lot of arguing we finally were told we can have half the money back as a lot of the issues were our opinion.

I asked them to pack up mine as if i have to eat it i will back home I'm not sitting there with a barman giving attitude and poor service.

Overall a horrible experience and will not be returning, the barman James needs replacing if he speaks to customers like that and does not even come over to apologize if i spoke to a customer like that i would be out the door.

I would take it further but from the experience and service it would have been a waste of time and effort.

Oh and as for the TREO of meats i ordered and took home but was told there was no lamb.....When i opened up the foil on getting home there was a lamb chop.

Last week we went here too and the same barman didn't put one of the meals through so when the food arrived my mum was missing hers....Nice to have on mothers day. Same person makes mistakes this week yet again on a mothers day meal and all this happens, he should be ashamed to be like he was.

When we said to the manager we should get an apology from him the answer was 'he won't apologize as he is a man and she will have to speak to him later'

If you do come here and have a poor experience don't even bother trying to complain, it will be an uphill battle you will never win and just make you even more sure you will never return.

As they say all the issues are just our opinions about the food i will make sure everywhere I go in future i ask to have my food as 'cooked' just to save any issues later on that i didn't state it.

I'm now off to make lunch at home for 3 unhappy people whilst being out of pocket by about ÂŁ20 and putting the money i did get towards a nice meal at Bull and Bush later in the week where both food and service are decent and actually care what customers think...

We booked to have our wedding reception here, a group of approximately 22 of us. Hired the upstairs of the restaurant, drinks on arrival and buffet food. Leading up to the wedding day I had telephoned to confirm details, I had asked if we could hire a DJ but was told this wasn’t an option however they would have music playing which could be turned up upstairs. We agreed and went in the evening before to decorate. We asked for cleaning products as it was quite dirty but we completely understood they had another booking in that day so hadnt had chance to clean yet. When we arrived after our wedding ceremony, we went upstairs where the lights were off, no music playing, no drinks on arrival, and the cleaning products we still left on the floor from the night before… we had to ask for our drinks and wait 20 minutes, we had to ask for the lights to be turned on and patio doors to be unlocked, we then asked for the music to be turned on to be told the speakers don’t work and haven’t done for months! After an hour we still had no food and no way of listening to any music, we asked if we could now get a dj as there was no atmosphere but we were told we couldn’t because they may get complaints. We asked to speak with someone in charge but was told no one was on site?! So we made the decision to find last minute alternative premises to go to for a celebration, we explained this to the staff, who then laughed at us and said “They don’t have anything to do with upstairs, we just work the bar!” It was disgusting, were treated appallingly with absolutely no respect or regard for the fact it was our wedding day! We cannot believe the way the staff treated us!

They ruined our day and we will never step foot in there again and we will be telling all our friends and...

Our table was pre booked for boxing day lunch to accommodate 8 people one of whom was an elderly lady in a wheelchair. Initially on booking, the table was designated there and then due to access required. This was not the case on the day. We were split and two of the party had to sit on a separate table elsewhere. Our table was booked for 12.30. We arrived 30 mins early. Still our order was not taken until 1.30. It took only 15 mins for first meal to arrive. Unfortunaly it was another 45 mins for the 8th persons meal to arrive. My own meal which was only pie and veg was returned the first time as the veg was stone cold. It arrived again 5 mins later. Obviously been microwaved as outside of veg was hot but not inside when bitten into. The new potatoes were withered and a film/skin was now all over the gravy and the pastry a leathery soggy mess (only happens when you micro pastry). It was returned a second time. When it came out the 3rd time it had been well and truely microwaved which was now inedible. 6 out of the 8 meals arrived with the same complaint. The front of house was very apologetic and said she could not understand what was going on in the kitchen today. We left the establishment not having eaten and without charge for the 6 out of 8 meals at 3.30pm. Our boxing day meal then came from McDonald's as that was one of the few places that was open at this time. We had traveled down from Northamptonshire to spend a prebooked boxing day with family at this establishment. The only good thing to say about this place was that the female manager on duty was lovely and she handled our situation with total...

Have been a regular customer of the ‘Dumpling’ and their roasts were the best BUT not now! Went today and ordered the same as usual 1 beef & 1 belly pork. It used to come with veg in a dish with roast potatoes, pilled with meat then large Yorkshire on top. Not now, veg scattered on plate (looked as though they had been placed to look attractive however it was cold, I am guessing by the time it took to do it!)Pots in middle. Little very thin sliced beef on my husbands topped with a soggy yorkshire. Mine the same but a slice of belly pork with burnt crackling(Would not have put it on the plate) see below, asked for extra gravy as usual when ordering but didn’t come in a jug it was a dipping bowl(tiny enough for one of us) and was very thin and watery. No cauliflower cheese unless you paid extra, this again has changed. No one came and asked if our meal was ok. We left after paying as no one came to clear our plates. It wasn’t that busy as we booked for 2pm. Will not return, new plating not for us. Used to be our local, not now. Don’t change what isn’t broke!

The food is absolutely outstanding as is the service. What let's it down after our vist yesterday evening was how cold it was inside. No heating was on so I asked one waitress who said it's just about to come on. It did not so asked another waitress and she said its can be slow in heating up. In actual fact it never came on. My 77 year old mum was freezing and we ate in our coats and left sooner than we planned. Also because it was so cold our food was piping hot but went cold within 10 minutes. We were going to book for boxing day but we can't be that cold again when eating. They really need to address the heating because as I said, the food is to die for and I really want to go back but unfortunately not when it's so cold. All the people eating were in coats and hats, a couple of ladies moved tables to see if it was warmer and most people left early. Come on Devon dumpling please put your heating on.

Visited as a party of 10, pre booked and ordered. Staff were lovely and helpful, friendly and efficient, and any problems were quickly rectified. The food was lovely, everyone enjoyed their meals. Only comment about the prawn salad there were ALOT of prawns and not much salad, and the salad was just leaves also there was no soft egg as on the menu. It tasted ok though. The busy atmosphere in the bar was good with a variety of groups; families, friends and couples.
