Dormouse Haven (formerly Davenport Tea Rooms) is an absolute treasure! Recently taken over just last month, it's clear that the new team have truly raised the bar for both food and service. From the moment I stepped inside, I was charmed by the quirky décor and whimsical touches that bring Wonderland to life, especially the Mad Hatter’s Room. The team - Petra, Simon, Billy, and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes deserve endless praise. Their passion and dedication shine through in every aspect of the experience. The service was warm and welcoming, and the staff were so attentive and accommodating, making the visit feel extra special. We hadn't booked a table but tried our luck and they managed to fit us in. You need to pre order the full afternoon tea experience but they offered a mini afternoon tea which was simply outstanding - the best I’ve had in a long time and incredible value at only £15. The sandwiches were fresh and bursting with flavour, the scones perfectly baked, and the array of savouries and sweet treats were both delicious and beautifully presented. My friend had the ploughman’s which also looked amazing and great value for money. Everything felt indulgent yet loving prepared. I enjoyed my visit so much that I immediately booked a return trip with friends to try their full festive afternoon tea in a couple of weeks. If it’s anything like my first experience, I know it will be awesome! Dormouse Haven is a must-visit for anyone who loves fantastic food, exceptional service, and a touch of whimsy. Whether you’re a fan of Alice in Wonderland or just looking for a unique and memorable tearoom, this place is a dream come true

This was our first experience with an English tearoom and we are so glad it was at the delightful Dormouse Haven. We had arrived early to rent a Black Prince narrowboat for the canal and Petra warmly welcomed us to stay out of the rain as long as we needed while waiting for our boat to be ready. As tea-naive Americans, we enjoyed her recommendation for Yorkshire tea, and the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea sandwiches, cakes and scones. The food was absolutely delicious and obviously created with passion. Too much for the two of us to eat so we took the leftovers and enjoyed them that night on the boat. And then some for breakfast the next morning. As a couple of artists, we really enjoyed and appreciated the creativity of the Alice in Wonderland decor and atmosphere. Petra's vision for the restaurant is really cool. And thanks so much to Petra for the hospitality. A highlight of our first trip to England!

A Beautiful Afternoon at Dormouse Haven! I had the most beautiful afternoon tea experience at Dormouse Haven—what an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm & welcoming, & the attention to detail was just perfect. There are so many afternoon tea options to choose from, whether you’ve got a big appetite or just fancy something a little lighter. The variety of sandwiches was delicious & thoughtfully put together, and the cakes were simply divine—each one better than the last! What truly made the experience unforgettable was the staff. Their kindness, attentiveness, & genuine warmth made us feel so special from start to finish. It’s rare to find service that feels both professional & personal, but Dormouse Haven absolutely nails it. If you're looking for a place to relax, indulge, & be properly looked after, I can't recommend this place enough. I’ll definitely be returning!

What a wonderful experience! I booked (telephone call) an afternoon tea experience for myself and partner for her birthday as she loves all things tea! What a perfect place it was too! Right from the off, Davenports certainly didn’t disappoint! We both had the Traditional afternoon tea and selected a light green tea to pair. Prior to the afternoon tea being presented, Belinda discussed the history behind the different types of tea leaves and her knowledge is second to none. Both myself and partner came away from the experience knowing the correct process on how to brew particular tea types (I no longer have bitter green tea - thank you!) The afternoon tea was presented beautifully and came with a selection of delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes with varying fillings such as potted beef (our favourite), cheese, ham and cucumber just to name a few. The cakes were excellent and our favourite being the raspberry profiterole was light and creamy and packed flavour! The afternoon tea comes with two large scones and we chose Belinda’s cheese and lavender on this occasion. Both were light and fluffy and matched the clotted cream, jam and quince perfectly. During the experience Belinda suggested we opt for the ‘Tea tasting’ which meant we were able to sample a selection of different tea types. We opted for a selection of green teas all with subtle changes in flavour and a couple of ‘Smokey’ teas as per recommended. The whole experience was sublime. The food and service was excellent and Belinda (+team) certainly made a birthday celebration one to remember....

In February this Year I purchased a gift voucher for afternoon tea for my Sister's 70th Birthday, however, due to the current situation she and her Husband were unable to redeem the voucher on the date of her birthday which was on the 19th. However, due to the current easing of government guidelines, my Sister and her Husband were eventually accommodated by Belinda and Ian and so were able to redeem the voucher on Sunday 4th October. Both my sister and her husband were totally overwhelmed by the whole experience which included a bouquet flowers which was included as part of the voucher. My sister visited me after they had left the Tearoom to share their experience and also to show me the beautiful bouquet of flowers, both reckoned that it was the best tea room experience they had ever had, beautiful food, well presented, great ambience, and beautiful flowers. Thank you Ian and Belinda for all your efforts during such difficult times and for enabling my Sister to have such an enjoyable experience, needless to say, your efforts have been most appreciated and therefore, I sincerely hope that you will receive much deserved support during the current...
