To be honest, it is more a 3 Star review, but because this is my first visit, and I guess it was "bad luck" and not the owners fault, it would not be fair to get the overall rating down for one bad visit. First of all, the cake was delicious :-), the cafe has his charm and the staff seamed very friendly. But still, this should have not happened. I went in and ordered Cake to take out. At first it was crowded and I had to wait about 10 min till I could get my order in ( that's fine). Then, when it was my turn, they took my order but half way through some one took over, taking the rest of the order and the payment. Also very friendly. I was then to ask to wait outside and they will bring my cake outside. I am not joking, it took another 20 min till I got 4 slices of cake. I did ask in-between, if they forgot my cake, but the lady said, I just have to wait, they will bring it to me. I could see that one girl was cleaning the dishes, the other one was wiping the table and the 3r one was preparing food. So they were not lazy, but still slow and very relaxed in what they were doing, which is frustrating, if your family is waiting for you to continue the hike. Then one girl came to me, apologizing that she did not know, I was waiting for "Take away", she thought I wanted to sit outside. But honestly, what difference does this make? It should not take 20 min to cut 4 slices and either put them on a plate or in a box. I was this close to walk back in and ask for my money back. (And it actually could be, that they overcharged me. Taking the "sit outside price instead of take away. It was about 17 Pounds for 3 cakes and one flat jack) Waiting 30 min in total is a no go. Neither to say, I was not happy and it spoiled the experience. Like I said, the cake was very tasty - Would I come...
Read moreWe have had the absolute pleasure of staying in this beautiful place on a number of occasions over the years. I can't understand why I have not written a review before! As my mind strays to a time when lockdown restrictions ease so we can start enjoying life as we knew it, my heart and mind stray to Stairhes.
As you walk down the main street and smell the coal fires it's like walking back in time. The two B&B rooms are beautifully decorated and leave us feeling nostalgic. They are quaint, clean and comfortable and we had a great sleep.
The full English breakfast was enormous, the best we have ever had in any establishment we have stayed in and no request was too much. You must try the tea room as many times as you can fit it in during your stay. World beating scones on offer. Trudie and her staff are attentive and the produce is first class.
I love Staithes now because of this little business and it's owner. It is in my top 3 places in the country for the atmosphere, the sence of community you get, the history and of course the sea. We will however miss the beautiful and gentle Dora Trudies dog who was as much a face of the business as her guardian. We will...
Read moreWe love Dottys, we have been visiting since Trudie converted the business to the cafe, we are never disappointed. We visited today, and we received a friendly warm welcome from the girls, ordered quickly and despite them being short staffed and it was fairly busy our order arrived quickly and everything was perfect. As always couldn’t resist a Cheese Scone with the works ( butter cheese and chutney) are still … The “BEST CHEESE SCONES “ E V E R , also a delicious bacon butty in s super soft tasty floury bap, and off the specials board a round of Apricot and prune toast too, with lashings of butter, not forgetting the lovely coffee. We love the friendly atmosphere, not at all stuffy, and especially enjoy the friendly banter that we always look forward to. No one does it better, thank you Trudie and your welcoming team....
