Fabulous!
Booked an hour pre 12 noon and was offered a table from 12.00 noon until 14.00 - very grateful, call handled fabulously and we arrived on time. Warmest welcome we could have from Kim (from Altlanta?) - we were guided to our table - all COVID requirements were fulfilled without spoiling the ambience of the vibe.
Kim needs a special word of thanks - she was kind, understanding, fully explained what we needed to do and was and very endearing. In fact, all the staff were. Everywhere we looked staff were working hard to comply to the requirements of 2m seperation etc were friendly and made you feel welcome.
All the customers around us appeared happy and were treated with the same couretesy and information as we were.
The meal was more than "pub-grub" and more "gastro" - however, Dun Cow, my other half would have been happy with half his portion of steak and ale pie - and you may want to take note o portion control for your accounts - not a criticism but just a point. My chicken was to die for, it was perfectly cooked and moist and was the highlight of the meal.
Whoever feels that they have not received both quality service and food, a warm welcome, good service and the ability to integrate the COVID regs without rubbing it into your face - perhaps needs to reconsider why they visted Dun Cow in the first place!
If you want to take advantage of the govenment offer - then go ahead, Dun Cow will deliver and make you very happy . However, if you want to find and support a gastro pub that after one visit will welcome you, deliver the goods - whether that be quality produce, quality service and provide a friendly atmosphere - youve struck Gold!
Thank you Dun Cow - after 6 months lockdown, you were our first restaurant visit and you smashed it!
To those who think your wait is long for food - you MUST consider the staff and position that the goverment offer has posed on these establishments. We waited 30 minutes - completely acceptable and understandable!
Dun Cow, Over delivered, made me smile and the food was fab! Shout out to the lovley Kim! Lovely Person who ..made you want to visit again!
Ignore the haters on the websites - this place deserves a visit - it's working to regulations, it makes you happy, it delivers good quality produce and most importantly... makes you smile and want to return. not just in August BUT throughout the years to...
Read moreMy friends and I visited on 13th August 2025 for lunch. A total of 17 people. At first, the welcome seemed genuine and the service good. Sadly though, things went downhill from here. A number of people ordered Sea Bass from the Specials menu at a cost of £21.95. How shocked were they when the food arrived. One tiny sea bass fillet on a bed of roasted veg and potatoes served in a small bowl rather than on a dinner plate. Possibly to disguise just how small the portion was. Worth £21.95, absolutely not. A couple of people ordered the House and Greek salads. If you're happy with a bowl of mixed greens and red onions, you'll enjoy this but don't expect anything more. The house salad didn't even contain tomatoes. The best of our visit was still to come when we went to the bar to pay our bills. They deserve 10/10 for rudeness. (I note a similar review from 2 months ago in which the diners also mentioned how rude they were when they went to the bar to pay.) We were abruptly told to move to the other side of the bar and that we would have to break down the bill ourselves as we were each paying for what we had ordered (only fair). We were then told "why don't you just split the bill between you all?) Easier for them, but not for us. One of the ladies was then told (I use the word "told" rather than "asked" as this is exactly how it was), that "she would need to stay until everyone had paid in case there was an underpayment and she would have to settle the difference." I would add that this was loudly shouted to her across the bar in front of all the other people in the bar area, and in a very aggressive manner. It was extremely embarrassing. Did we enjoy the overall experience, sadly no. Did we feel valued as customers, sadly no. Did we enjoy the food, no. Was it good value for money, definitely not. Would we be returning, definitely not. I also find it very interesting that nearly every other review is almost a 5 star. Are we the only people to not enjoy our visit? I don't think so. The pub does have the option to remove bad reviews, so let's see if this...
Read moreGreat reviews for the Dun Cow??? A lovely place to meet friends and family for a nice get to together, then relax on the sofa by the real fire. Cosy and modern dĂŠcor giving high expectations to the first-time visitor, as we were, with the thought of a delicious Sunday dinner on the forefront of our minds. The thought bit is as far is it goes. I do not wish to dissect the food, but letâs just say if you are heading to the Dun Cow with the expectations of high quality food or as described âGastro Pubâ, this is definitely not where you should be heading. Simply put, poor quality, tasteless food, boasting all the hallmarks of a well-stocked pub serving âready-made mealsâ to the masses. Just look at the size of the menu. Any freshly prepared restaurant canât offer this many dishes without the magicians trick of pulling them out of a vac pack. However, in fairness, the rare beef was freshly cooked off a joint, just a shame it was a childâs portion size with two wafer thin slices over a teaspoon of crush carrot. Warmed up âperfectly manufacturedâ Yorkshire puddings which I defy anyone blindfolded to guess what they were eating. All in all, The Dun Cow 2/10 for food quality. We wonât ever be...
