The Egerton Arms, is in a beautiful part of the English countryside in Astbury, opposite the beautiful church with a 2000 year old yew tree and some very fascinating gravestones. Ample on site parking, we arrived on a Sunday, and the car park was extremely busy. Our room was lovely, even though it felt a bit of a hike to get to it, the stairs although few were quite steep! Lovely view over the beer garden. We also chose to have our evening meals here, and we were not disappointed, and came to understand why the car park was as busy as it was. We were going to have a Sunday dinner, but after they brought the specials board over with Ox cheek on it, we went for that instead, we still got the Yorkshire Puds! It was absolutely fabulous. Meat cooked perfectly, oodles of rich gravy and veg to go with it. The second night after having a walk around the nearby town of Congleton, which can be walked to either via the main road or as we did the public footpath over farm land, we decided to have Rag pudding, neither of us had heard of it so just had to try it. Again we were not dissapointed! Service and people were lovely, friendly, showed us to our room when we got there. Reasonably priced as well for being out in the middle of nowhere! We normally book bed and breakfast, but these guys didn't do breakfast, which given how nice our evening meals were we felt that was a shame, but we knew what we were getting when we booked and the nearby Glebe farm had an onsite cafe, which we did eat at one morning, and thoroughly enjoyed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Just had Sunday lunch at the Egerton. High hopes but friends who we met said there had been a change in ownership. Definitely would not recommend. Service friendly but a bit Faulty Towers (no fault of young staff). Beef was tough and fatty, no asking if we wanted pink or well done (come on it’s either slow cooked tender or pink!) Yorkshire puds are Aunt Bessie’s or similar, def not home cooked. Veg ok but standard fare. The Cheese pie was atrocious, pastry the high point, filling almost seemed curdled (see picture) and dry;mash and a decent cheddar as a minimum surely. Chips were excellent however. Apple pie dessert was the highlight, though faulty towers-esq again. One with custard, one with cream ordered …two with custard came out, waiter realised the error, turned back, brought one out but neglected to arrange the one with cream. We had to ask and it came 10min later…like I say, nice pie though. Oh, forgot to mention by the chicken wings. Ok-ish but needed longer in the oven to get crispy skin before sauce poured over …basics again missed. Hopefully work in progress for the new chef. We took in good humour and being British didn’t complain. Oh, this is based on a beef roast being £19 …we are getting in Paragon territory. A staff outing to gauge the service aim required perhaps!

'The personal touch that has all but gone' From the south, looking for a place to rest our heads as we drive up north and stubbled across this beautiful place. Lovely views, lovely air, lovely people. On arrival we were greeted with open arms. The landlords Ian and Chandra personal made the effort to greet us and inform us about the local area and things we can do while in the area. Cannot express the level of gratitude we now have for what is missing nowaday. We're a younger couple who seldom come across much hospitality, something that is definitely becoming lost in the world today. THIS IS A MUST visit for anyone coming to this part of the world. 5/5

We visited for Sunday roast yesterday and unfortunately will not be returning. We booked a table as we assumed it would be busy. There were quite a few people sat outside but hardly anyone inside. Didn’t start well, when we arrived there was no ‘hello’ or ‘hi can I help you’ we just got stared at as if we were an inconvenience. If we hadn’t said we’ve booked a table I swear she would still be stood there looking at us now… drink order was taken straight away at the table, no problem. After sitting there for 45 minutes waiting to order food in a quiet restaurant we had to go and ask to be able to order. We had also sat amongst used tables that hadn’t been re-set since people left before we had even arrived. Some of which were still there when we left. We finally got to order..1 person orders lamb Sunday lunch… no problem… another orders beef Sunday lunch, sorry there’s no beef left… ok I’ll have the lamb instead, nope ‘that was the last lamb dinner’ oh. So had to go for the Turkey. We did not get told this until point of ordering which I don’t think is very good. At this point I didn’t want to hand my money over so didn’t even order any food. The lady server was honestly on another planet and didn’t seem to have a care in the world for her customers…. There was another couple who we noticed who tried to get attention of the staff for a good 15 minutes. They asked for a dessert menu. Another 15 minutes or so after having the menu they got up and walked out. I’m guessing because no one bothered to come back to see if they wanted anything. The other bit that concerned me were the two tables that had reserved signs on for people coming later on… what were they going to be offered to eat? Hope they had been pre-warned that there was no meat left for a roast. It’s a real shame but the service seemed so bad that I just wouldn’t go again. Hoping you could use this to maybe have some proper front of house training for the staff, especially this particular one. To be fair the food did look good although my party was split with one who enjoyed it and the...

My husband, my mother and I booked 2 gorgeous rooms for a weekend stay to visit family in the area. We were greeted with such a warm welcome from the lovely owners. Well defined systems and social distancing rules in place. Out door tables each with sanitiser bottles. Sanitiser station on entry too. Well presented and spotlessly clean rooms in keeping with the character and age of the buildings but with modern en-suite bathrooms fitted. We stayed in rooms 4 and 6. Both rooms equipped with good sized, comfy beds, ample bedding and cushions. Each room provided television,Tea and Coffee making facilities and plenty of storage. It was lovely to wake to the sound of birds singing and the chiming of the church bells. Lovely Breakfast room to enjoy a choice of well thought out breakfast menu and pub bar. As we were visiting family we did not get the chance to try these out but definitely will on our next visit. Lots of excellent reviews and comments from other people who have. Situated in stunning Astbury, opposite the lovely St Mary's church and a few minutes away from Glebe Farm, which we love. The owners and staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend visiting here. We will certainly return to visit, both to stay and...
