Used to be great, but not anymore. You can see the lake from a distance, but not allowed anywhere near it. Every chance to touch the water is prevented by "Private land, SoT Anglers", or "Private land, Kayaking only".
No access for dogs to get to the water, except a tiny little entrance that is fenced off for humans.
And you must now pay for parking.
And the ice cream / coffee place is very expensive.
And it's just full of boozed up louts, shouting, swearing, drinking heavily and causing an absolute nuisance.
Steer clear of Astbury, there are better...

We love Astbury Mere Country Park - A great walk (exactly one mile) around the mere, with loads of birds to observe & photograph. Lots of places to sit, but the benches near the car park could do with upgrading as they are looking old & beginning to deteriorate. There is a really good coffee shop selling hot drinks & snacks. Great open spaces of grass to exercise & play on.
