What a find! The best pub grub I’ve come across for years and not astronomically priced either like most places these days. We did a lovely little loop from the village car park, up past the reservoir, over Embsay crag and looped back across the moors back to the village and straight into the pub. We left our dog in the car as she was filthy but did note a few happy dogs down at the bottom of the pub. Out of respect we swiftly removed our boots too so as not to trail mud through the place. Noted the polite notice on the door too. Samira opted for the veg lasagna and I ordered the steak pie. DELICIOUS! We will be back!

Lovely pub, friendly staff and great location. Always a pleasure to visit this pub and the staff can’t do enough for you. Had the special Chinese style curry that came with rice and prawn crackers… was really tasty just like my local take away!! 🥢 Perfect end to a great days walk with the dog, hubby and our muddy paws… We politely left our boots at the door as there’s a sign which isn’t too much to ask. Thanks to the older lady and her son Sam who told us about the ales on the bar too 🍻

Fantastic staff. Very friendly and helpful. We ordered food as well as a drink, which was served quickly. We waited a while for our food, but it was served piping hot and beautifully presented. The bill was a surprise too, a very nice surprise. Would thoroughly recommend this place. A little gem

Would be zero if that was an option. Visited this “restaurant” on 12th June to be subjected to the worst meal imaginable.

My husband ordered a salad - I use that term lightly perhaps a lettuce bowl and plastic ham would a better description

I ordered a bowl of salmonella- otherwise described as under cooked soggy battered fish found on the menu under fish and chips.

We were not table checked until it came to receiving the bill. When asked if everything was ok, we mentioned the salad was limited and the fish was under cooked and soggy. The waitress said she would speak to the kitchen and never returned. We paid the bill and then left.

In the car park the same waitress flippantly remarked “thanks do call again” I replied with we won’t be bothering.

I was then cascaded with a torrent of abuse from the waitress AND the land lady, to simply accept that the meal we were subjected to was substandard with an apology would have been acceptable.

We can appreciate things happen, however there is no excuse for poor and abusive service. I urge anyone looking for a place to eat to avoid this pub...

Nice example of a traditional country pub. Popped in after a mid week walk round the reservoir hoping to get lunch. Unfortunately they had stopped serving so settled for a quick pint before afternoon closing at 3pm, just like the old days. I'm normally a dark ale drinker but given a choice of Hetton Pale, and Taylor's Golden Best or Knowle Spring I chose the latter. I must say it was exceptional, with that unique flavour that all Taylor's ales had before Landlord became the mass produced beer found all over the country that it has become. I look forward to returning to...
