Unfortunately, this now constitutes half a chicken (£6.90). It didn't matter the size as actually it was such poor quality chicken it went straight in the bin. I rang the manager and she advised that it wasn't their problem as this is how they buy them, although she did say sorry. Obviously cost cutting during these tough times, esp. For fish and chip shops. My daughter's scampi was however lovely though.

Second visit as we were in the area for an overnight stay. Lovely fish and chips. A light batter and good size portion. Yummy curry sauce. A quick service with friendly staff. Thanks again. Recommended. (regular cod and part of a large chips - between 3)

Great gluten free fish options (every evening from 5pm!) and good portions with online ordering options (50p 'admin' charge) or just phone up. Clean and efficient, very impressive.

Not cheap, But very generous portions of VERY good fish and chips makes it brilliant value. I challenge anyone to eat a large portion of their cod and chips and be able to honestly say "I wish I'd bought some more" ! :) A single large cod and chips will easily stuff 2 greedy kids, And 2 large cod with 1 large chips is going to fill a pair of even the hungriest adults. The portions are that big !!! Whenever I fancy fish and chips, I always drive away from the 3 shops that are a lot closer to home and accept the 20 minute drive to get here as the price you pay for good food.

Edit - Since I originally wrote this the shops changed hands. It seems that the new owners realised that they were not only buying a fish and chip shop, But they were also buying its reputation. The quality is just as good now as it was under its previous owner. Everything tastes exactly the same as before, and the portions are still as OTT as ever. :)

It doesnt happen often, but it seems that the new owners have decided not to change things for the sake of changing them, or cut corners. They've stuck with what the previous owner proved works ! Hats off to...

I had such high hopes. I moved to Winterbourne a couple of months ago and I’ve been looking forward to trying this place because it has such good ratings. I was happy with the appearance of the shop and the friendliness of the staff and how clean everything seemed to be. I ordered a cheeseburger and some chips. To be fair I know chip shop cheeseburgers aren’t usually the best but this was really disappointing., for some reason every time I took a bite from the burger I could smell fish that sounds a little tedious and silly but it was really offputting. I don’t know if the bins are stored next to raw fish or something but it’s really a strong smell. I Couldn’t work out the smell was coming from the bum or the lettuce and actually the lettuce ended up being removed and that seemed to help a bit. On top of that the burger itself was really dry and tasteless and there was no cheese on this cheeseburger . I will definitely go again and I will get something more traditional like a big piece of fish but I definitely don’t recommend...

Terrible food hygiene standards!

I have been using this chippy regularly as I think it's great that they do gf. Tonight I went in and watched the person making my order eat Moam sweets with no gloves, lick his fingers, then pick up my cod and dip it in the batter jug fingers and all!!! I then watched him put my chips in the box, grab a handful and eat them with his mouth open while leaning over the fryer... shocking. The one time I saw him wash his hands was after dipping his fingers in the batter, but no soap it was a quick 2 second swill under the water. No gloves were worn at any stage.

We didn't say anything in the shop as it is not worth the conflict - this was in the open for all staff to see and no-one was reacting so clearly standard practice when less busy. Shocking and I will never go back, food went straight in the bin before we...
