Taj Brasserie — Restaurant in England

Simply awful. We arrived at approx 1800 and the restaurant was relatively empty. Left stood at the entrance with no welcome. We could see the staff and they could see us. But they continued with their own conversation. Eventually taken to the table with no smile or greeting. He asked if we require a table for 2 when I was stood with my wife and son! Ordered poppadoms for starters and they were soft. No crunch. Ordered drinks and waiter informs us that the small bottles of lager were not chilled so would provide large to share. 2 small bottles arrived at the table. Main meals were bland and tasteless. Never been to a restaurant where staff show no interest in the customer and service is carried with no communication. No one greets you, no one asks you if the you're enjoying the food, no one asks if you want another drink. After the poppadoms, the waiter (old chap with jet black hair), came to table with no acknowledgement or asked if we'd finished and simply started collecting the dishes. Visited this restaurant after hearing really good reviews. Decided to take advantage of the EOTHO offer and booked in advance. Initial service was wonderful. Unfortunately, although the staff were all polite and helpful, they seemed incredibly over stretched and we were "forgotten" for long periods whilst waiting to place our orders. The meal was very drawn out over 3 hours (and not because we were slow ordering or eating!)I felt my meal was mediocre at best, it was lukewarm by the time it arrived and when sent back it wasn't much better, probably needed more than the 20 second zap in the microwave it received! The naans were the best I've had in a very long time and definitely improved my mood! 100% recommend having one! On the whole I feel this restaurant could be as amazing as people had said but they completely over booked themselves and couldn't cope. If I had not had the discount I would have been unhappy to pay full price. This is somewhere I may visit again but only because of others positive visits and I hope this was...

Poor management, poor service and I can’t rate the food from this visit, as we didn’t end up eating! we booked a table in advance (2 months ago) for 7:30pm and still weren’t sat down an hour and 45 minutes later! There was no where to park, queuing to get in the restaurant when we arrived. We arrived just after 7pm to be told the table isn’t ready yet, no problem we thought initially, but we were told repeatedly, another 5-10minutes. However there was two groups of 4 seated, then a group of 10 and then another group of 12 sat down before us, although we had an earlier booking. The manager wasn’t interested when we raised our concerns initially, and despite others being offered apology drinks, we didn’t have the same offer despite us waiting longer, until we were walking out the door an hour and a half later.
