Fox and hounds — Restaurant in England

Popped into the Fox for drink and a sandwich one afternoon. Drab decor, furniture is mismatched... Looks like it's all come from various house clearances, tatty lantern thing on the window ledge with missing glass panels... Why it's not been thrown in the bin is a mystery. There was a fire burning but certainly wasn't giving out any heat, we were cold despite keeping our coats on. Sandwich menu is basic, lacks imagination, we ordered BLT which is about the most exciting offering they have plus a couple of portions of chips, what we received was a tasteless sandwich and a bowl of soggy chips, at a guess I'd say they'd been cooked earlier and reheated in the microwave. I had wanted a brandy & coke but they don't stock Coca-Cola only Pepsi which is a bit weird considering many people actually drink Coca-Cola or use it as a mixer and Pepsi is a totally different drink. Staff are OK, neither friendly nor rude, could probably benefit from a customer service course. I wouldn't recommend this place, there's far nicer...

I'm not sure how this pub has below 4* average! As pubs go, this is very traditional in the atmosphere and design, perfect looking countryside pub.

Plenty of seating options (wooden, soft furnishings, stool) Food portions are generous for sure, massive food portions for the money. Very reasonable prices on both food and beers. The beer is a mixture of branded and local brewery options. Quality of the food is good, nothing gourmet, honest pub food which is perfect after a long day in the hills are just fancy a meal out.

I sadly don't live locally to here as we were visiting Ennerdale, but if I was local to the Lakes, let alone Ennerdale, then I would be making this place my 'go to' local. Hopefully, I'll be...

Amazing food, huge portions and very friendly staff! I had the chicken and bacon carbonara which was one of the nicest pasta dishes I’ve ever had, the garlic bread was delicious and perfectly crispy. Both elements of the dish were at the perfect temperature when served so I could dig in immediately! They have a wide range of options on the dessert menu all with a choice of cream, custard or ice cream. I decided on the sticky toffee pudding and yet again the portion size was huge, it was perfectly sticky and not overly sweet.

Overall 100% recommend, it’s my new favourite...
