Idyllic, stunning location and with so much potential, but the rudest owners I have ever come across in my life and I am 62. Food was just OK but the setting made up for it and we had had a great day until when we departed. What i presumed was the 'lady' of the establishment came out to tell me my car was parked dangerously and gave me a right ticking off and a stern warning. Believe me I am extremely cautious where I park and checked and there was no way that I was in anyone's way. My wife went back to talk to this woman to express how upset she was and how unnecessary her tone was (after spending £20), well the male owner really laid into my wife verbally. My wife left rather hurriedly saying that the owner was getting very angry. Read the TripAdvisor reviews (and some here) and be warned, unless your behaviour is impeccable expect the host to give you a barrage of abuse. On a beautiful day we wondered why the tea room was virtually empty and the one 100yds up the road was busy, maybe the other one was welcoming. Our faith in Cumbrian hospitality was restored when we visited The Flock Inn tea room in Rosthwaite to cheer...
Read moreUmmed and aahed over 3 or 4 stars here. If you don't know Grange it's a fabulous spot which I'm sure is heaving in high season. The tea room is in a lovely little cottage just over the bridge. It has a garden area which i think borders the river (it was closed due to the weather when we visited).
We got a couple of sandwiches, some tea and shared a slice of cake. It was all as you'd want really - simple, but no issues. Even the little salad garnish with the sandwich was actually decent to eat rather than being a dried up afterthought as it can be. Cakes were more than decent.
Service was OK, but we both picked up a slight vibe of it being far from a labour of love for the owners. It may have been an off day and it was the end of a long hot season, but it took the shine off the experience a little - we noticed another guest try to make a little polite conversation with one of the owners and get nowhere. We asked for a recommendation on which of the cakes to try - "I don't eat cake" came the reply - oh, ok then.
But I would still recommend the place and encourage you to try - we'll certainly be back...
Read moreFor a start this Cafe is not in Keswick but in Grange the other end of Derwentwater. I have told Google about this.
Unfriendly service not welcoming at all. Soup of the day Carrot and Coriander unlikely to be home made and quite bland anyway. Pretty expensive for what we got. Soup and Fellmans Lunch i.e. a Ploughmans plus 2 small coffees £15. A smile costs nothing we didn't fancy pudding or sweet as we just wanted to get out from such an...
